Summary: It was 2007, and an ice breaker leading a tanker in the frozen waters of the Arctic made an amazing discovery, the frozen remains of a huge airship which had crashed there long ago. Inside they found the frozen, yet still alive WWII hero known as Captain America.
Steve Rogers been given a year to acclimate, and was set loose into the world when Fury realized he was not only 18 years old, he was also a very good man, but had never been a good soldier. He was also as much of a genius as Howard Stark, and Fury was sick of engineers with money, and hero complexes.
Steve's degrees obtained in the past were validated, his knowledge updated, and still he could not get a job. Not until he happened to meet Tony Stark, Howard's son. He became the genius engineer's assistant and body guard.

Author's Note: Well this is only an excerpt of the story, and I really, really had a hellish time trying to make a summary for it. I'll keep on working on it though. It really needs to be much shorter for ff.net, but also a lot less rambling.
So here it is, please tell me what you think. Also I really loved the idea of technopats, and began writing this story roughly about a month after I began writing Here, there, and back again. The photo is Steve as a bodyguard.
Words sans notes:
A large fluffy omelet with a good helping of hash browns on the side was placed before Tony as he finished his third mug of coffee, which he did not remember filling. He was still not fully awake, but his stomach growling was reason enough to start eating once he realized there was a fork in his hand. Odd that. Buttered toast appeared besides it, as did blueberry jam, and what appeared like a blueberry muffin.
Puzzled as to the origins of the food and fork, Tony took a bite, and moaned. The omelet was delicious. It was filled with some creamed spinachs, melted cheese, and lots of crunchy bacon. It was perfect, as were the hash browns. He grabbed a piece of toast which was the way he liked it. As he ate he began getting more awake, it helped to find his mug was filled again with coffee.
Tony finally opened his eyes fully once he was nearly finished with the omelet to find a very amused Steve leaning on the kitchen counter. He had a mug of coffee as well. The younger man had clearly showered, and was dressed in a simple red t-shirt and jeans.
A StarkPad was on the kitchen island along with a stylus for the tablet, so Steve had probably been working on something. Odd since Tony had not informed him fully of his duties yet.
“Morning Boss,” he saluted the other man with his mug then took a sip of coffee. The amusement still on his face. “Are you coherent enough now?”
“Yeah, where did this come from? I don't remember ever ordering it before.” He was frowning. He needed to know from which restaurant it came from, so he could order it again, it was that good.
“I cooked it, but you were too out of it to notice,” Steve could not help but chuckle at the astounded expression on Tony's face.
“You cook?” He asked, that was unexpected. Steve just nodded. Tony then bit the muffin and another moan escaped, it was… sublime. “You bake too?” He got another nod. “This is so very, very good. I could eat this,” and he waved the muffin, “everyday. Best I've ever tasted. Marry me Steve.”
Steve just laughed. “Sorry Boss, same sex marriages are not accepted anymore in California.”
“We'll elope to New York, just say you marry me and will bake me more blueberry muffins,” he begged and took another bite.
“I might be convinced into baking you muffins, not just blueberry on a regular basis as well as my special triple chocolate cake, IF you eat breakfast AND dinner regularly. JARVIS tells me you skip often enough,” he negotiated.
“Traitor,” Tony muttered in the direction of one of JARVIS microphones. “Oh all right, I'll eat breakfast and dinner, but only if there are muffins and cake.”
“Oh, so you'll be missing my blueberry pancakes? I'm told they can be addictive,” Pat's and Ben's kids couldn't have enough of them when he made them. Even Fury liked them, so he always sent him some.
“I can make an exception for pancakes,” he conceeded.
“Tony?” Pepper asked from the door.
Pepper had arrived shortly after Tony, and saw the incredibly gorgeous man he had hired start preparing breakfast, after he gave Tony his coffee. She had thought the food was for the new guy, and was surprised the young man actually made it for Tony. She had been shocked her ex-boss had not only eaten something, but actually polished off all the food before him.
She had gone that morning ready to start a fight, Tony just could not go hiring any guy he met in a gym. There were procedures established for that. True, Happy told her JARVIS had checked the guy's background, and there were no surprises, and she knew the AI would not endanger Tony.
Still Pepper did not like the idea of leaving Tony with a stranger she had not even met, specially not when she had already chosen three prospective candidates for the job. People she had interviewed herself, and made sure they would be capable of following in her steps. Pepper did not know if the beautiful young man could.
But the guy handled Tony like a pro, in fact he handled him better than Happy, Rhodey, and her together. They never got him to agree to regular meals of any kind before, and for a home baked muffin at that. Of course they never got him to actually propose just so he could have a supply of those muffins either.
“Hi Pep, let me introduce you to Steven Robards, my new body-guard, personal assistant, workshop assistant, and soon to be supplier of muffins and cake. Steve, meet Virginia 'Pepper' Potts, my ex-personal assistant, and soon to be CEO of Stark Industries.”
“A pleasure to meet you Miss Potts,” Steve said shaking the hand she offered. “And congratulations on your new position.” He placed a mug of coffee for the strawberry blonde, and a muffin on the kitchen island besides Tony. He pulled a chair for her and pushed it back when she sat, using the manners his mother taught him
“You as well Mr Robards. Thank you,” she said a bit bemused at being subjected to the same treatment as Tony, and a chivalry few still used.
“You are welcomed Ma'am.”
Pepper took a bite of the muffin, and could not keep the small moan that escaped. God, but it was wonderful! No wonder Tony wanted to eat them everyday. “I was not sure if you knew what you were getting into when you agreed to work for Mr Stark, but it seems you do,” she mused.
“JARVIS was kind enough to inform me what part of my job description entails,” Steve told her a small smile in his face as he saw Tony try to steal her muffin, and she slapped his hand away. Her eyes clearly said MINE, Tony pouted.
“When was that?” Tony asked puzzled. Steve had gone to bed early after he showed him his room, and JARVIS confirmed it.
“This morning Boss, when I went for a jog.” To avoid making Miss Potts suspicious, Steve took out his new Starkphone from his pocket. JARVIS was hard wired to it. “I'm an early riser…”
“Oh no, you're one of those pesky morning people Sweetheart! And everything was so perfect,” Tony lamented. He stood up and located the other blueberry muffins. There were seven more, he took two and started eating one to Pepper's surprise.
“Sweetheart?” Pepper muttered, eyes wide.
Steve shrugged. “He called me that yesterday at the gym, and it seems the name stuck. I don't mind, as nicknames go, this one's nice. I've certainly been called worse things, and not all in English.”
“So what have you been doing since you woke up?” Tony asked sitting back at the counter with his little hoard of muffins, which he planned on eating as well.
“For starters I was doing some recon of the security around your home boss. It's quite good…”
“Of course it is, I planned it,” Tony interrupted.
“However,” Steve went on ignoring the interruption, “there is still room for improvement. You do have some blind spots, and no protection for air attacks coming either from the sea, or land.” Both Tony and Miss Potts gaped. “JARVIS and I have been going over the house's blue prints to correct the problem. I'll have a proposal for the improvements tonight, or tomorrow morning at the latest.”
“That was a very productive morning,” Pepper said impressed. It seemed the young man was really capable, and was taking his job as Tony's body guard very seriously.
“Steve and I accomplished more, Miss Potts,” JARVIS informed them. “While he was excercising this morning I also took the liberty of assisting Steve in familiarizing himself with your schedule, and checking anything pending in your agenda Sir.”
“You're on a first name basis Buddy?” Tony asked, more amused than anything. It was clear JARVIS liked Steve and approved of his hiring.
“He asked if it was against my directives to use first names. It is not Sir, and Steve informed me he preferred it if I used his first name,” he responded sounding a bit defensive, but dignified. JARVIS felt rather honored a human, aside for being a Techpath, wanted to treat him as an equal. Only Sir did that.
“That's fine by me JARVIS, if I minded I would have coded a directive against it,” he waved it off.
IWantBots:>Way to win JARVIS over Sweetheart. He sent a mental grin.
IcedPunk:>I wasn't trying to win him over Boss. He mentally projected, slightly sheepish. We'll be working close together, so I thought being on a first name basis would not be amiss.
“So, what else did you both do Sweetheart?” He asked curious.
Tony knew Captain America was an excellent strategist, and had been in several missions requiring breaking into HYDRA installations. He supposed the experience gained there was what allowed him to quickly assess the house's security, find the weaknesses, and the ways to strenghten those areas. It really was a shame he was dying because working with Steve was starting to look like a dream.
“Well, you have this week slotted as lab work. JARVIS informed me you have several projects whose due dates are in late May. Then there are the third party projects for the Expo, you're backlogged.
“If you tell me which criteria you're using for selection, I can screen them, reject those which do not fit the criteria, then prioritize the others in any order you see fit.”
“You understand technical jargon Mr Robards?” Pepper asked surprised. Happy had only mentioned Tony hired Mr Robards as a body guard, who would act as a personal assistant. But then Tony did mention the young man was to be his workshop assistant.
“Yes Ma'am, I do,” he responded politely
“He has dual Masters in Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT. Suma Cum Laude, and he graduated at sixteen. So he's a genius to booth.” Tony said rather proudly at Pepper's shocked expression.
“Oh,” she exclaimed softly a bit shocked. That was… unexpected. Happy never mentioned Robards was a genius, and one who shared Tony's career choices. “I think I would like to read your resume Mr Robards.”
“I'll e-mail it to you today Miss Potts. Would you need me to include any references to my work as a mercenary as well? Some I can include, but others requested confidentiality.”
“Include everything you can disclose Mr Robards.” She was impressed by how incredibly polite the young man was.
“If you can take care of the projects for the Expo Darling, it'll be a huge help. Was that all you both worked on?”
Steve proceeded to tell him about the pending events and meetings, and asked Miss Potts about what other things he would be expected to do for his boss. While at it, he asked about the meeting with the R&D Department Heads. Tony confirmed he would be expected to attend.
He also mentioned the need for a driver to replace Happy, since Steve could not be in charge of driving as well. They agreed on selecting one from those already working for Stark Industries, pending a thorough background check by JARVIS, and a test by Steve.
They needed someone good, capable of evasive maneuvers should it be required, and who would not panic in dire situations. Most of the time they just had to avoid paparazzi, but there had been attempted kidnappings, and one attempted assassination before. Once again both Tony and Pepper were impressed.
“On May 23rd you have a trip to Monaco to do PR for Stark Industries, and have a reservation at the Hotel de Paris' restaurant for the Circuit de Monaco which is on the 24th,” he pronounced the French perfectly.
“You speak French?” Tony was rather surprised, although perhaps he should not have been. One of the Howling Commandos was a French guy if he was not wrong.
“Yes, and German, Japanese, Italian, Spanish, and some Arabic as well as Polish.”
“That was not in your resume,” Tony frowned.
“It was on the first ones, but once they began asking about the two years I spent working for the Family Business, no one cared.” He shrugged at the last, then picked the used dishes and began washing them. “So I ommitted them.”
“So, what else did you do this morning Sweetheart?” He could not believe Steve had already accomplished so much.
Steve just rolled his eyes at his new boss flirty nature. “Since I am your body guard I want to check the security at the hotel in Monaco, and the restaurants where you have appointments.
“JARVIS was kind enough to provide me with blue prints from the hotel and restaurants so I can familiarize myself with them. Once there I'll be able to hack the security cameras on your floor, as well as the common areas for JARVIS to monitor.”
“I am grateful for the assistance Steve,” JARVIS told him. “The hotel cameras are not linked to any external network, so I had no access to them without inside assistance. The past years I had to content myself with Sir's, or Miss Potts reports. It was… irksome not to be able to assist Sir should it be necessary.”
“No problem Pal, giving you access to the cameras makes both our jobs easier,” Steve told JARVIS. “I don't have an updated list of the people who you are to meet Boss,” He adressed Tony and Miss Potts, “and neither do I have the names of members of the press allowed to contact you.
“I want to do security checks on all of them and their companions before we leave. I was going to request an appointment Miss Potts so we could speak about it later.”
“You did all that this morning?” Tony was a bit wide eyed, and he could see Pepper was as well. That was rather efficient.
“A bit more actually. I have clearance to carry weapons as your security detail, and am still working on securing a room for me with JARVIS assistance. If we can't, I can always camp out. For this reason I also requested a temporary permit for my bike.”
“You're taking the Harley?” That one drove like a dream, and he had wondered if Steve would let him take it out again sometime. It had been very long since he drove bikes. He might buy himself a couple.
“No, I think the BMW is better suited for Monaco's terrain. JARVIS says there's enough space for it in the small jets cargo hold.”
“My hotel suite has two rooms, you can take the other Sweetheart,” Tony offered. “You won't be all that much use as a body-guard if you have to stay at another hotel. So there, problem solved.”
Steve was about to protest, but then thought about it. It made sense to stay in the same suite as his Boss in case there was an attack during the night. “Well, I'll leave you to speak with Miss Potts, I'm going down to the workshop to start on the Expo's files.
“Also, I noticed Butterfingers has some slight mobility problems with his claw when you introduced us, do you mind if I take a look Boss?”
“Introduce you?” Pepper asked puzzled. “They are just robots.” She noticed that was the wrong thing to say to the two men there. Tony was about to open his mouth but the young man beat him to it.
“No Miss Potts, they aren't just robots. They are sentient, intelligent, and caring beings. Believe me, you cannot code emotion. Perhaps some behaviors imitating it, but not true emotions.
“Those bots feel, and demonstrate it, they are also self aware. They are capable of learning and have evolved to the point of developing their own version of feelings, they are people even if their bodies are made of metal…
“They are… like children actually. They behave like little children, and don't get me started on JARVIS because awe inspiring is too mild to describe just how utterly amazing he is.
“There's no one like him, and I doubt there will ever be. Take this from someone who knows about Artificial Intelligence Miss Potts, my Master Thesis was on it after all. So, may I check on Butterfingers' claw Boss?”
“Yes, yes of course. I suspect I've been neglecting them…” He said feeling bad, because he had not been paying much attention to them lately. His temper had been short too, and he had been taking it out on them.
“I don't think so, I just noticed because he patted my nose last night, and had trouble with the precision movements. Besides, he should have told JARVIS there was something wrong with his claw so JARVIS could inform you.
“I think you should sit with them when you have time, and tell them how important it is to let you, or JARVIS, know if something is malfunctioning so it can be fixed. Well now, if you excuse me.” Tony nodded. He picked up his tablet and stylus, then he made his way to the workshop.
