Author’s note: To avoid confusion this chapter starts after they arrive from OoTP.

Athenakitty: I don’t mind spelling corrections at all. On the contrary I appreciate them. It helps me correct my writing, last chapter was a bit rushed but I have corrected those spelling problems I found so far. About Petunia doing what Lily asked her, she already started by taking the potions and reading her letters.

Dug: Thanks for your comments; I will take them into consideration. I usually like to mix telling with ‘action’ as I’m more dialog oriented in my writing. You can probably notice that on my other stories, but in this story’s case it didn’t flow, as at least the first chapters have letters in them. This chapter though, has dialogs and some action. Lily, even though she’s dead, plays an important part to get the story going, hence the letters. Don’t know if that explanation made sense, if not I’ll try to re-phrase it.

Note on my other stories: I sent the latest Apprentice chapter to my new beta a few days ago. I’m waiting to get it back to upload it. Hopefully it will be soon, so please have some patience. Second Chance is also almost ready, should be up by Sunday with the muses help. Unexpected Child? (sigh) it’s progressing (that’s something at least) at a VERY slow pace. I also have three more stories going round and round in my mind, but I’m probably going to wait a bit until I upload them.

Hopefully I will be able to update this story every week or two at the most as I’m a bit ahead on the chapters. It still depends on how I’m doing with the other stories. The chapter is not beta’ed’, so if you find any errors I would appreciate it if you pointed them out so I can correct them.

Author Notes: This is based on the challenge by Severitus, but is does not comply completely. The Challenge is: Snape is Harry’s father. I tried to give it a slight twist, but if by any means it looks similar to other stories it is not intentional. There are far too many going around, not only in, but other places as well to be completely original anymore; though the challenge to do that is there.

I have already typed around 55 letter sized pages for this story, which are around four chapters, perhaps a bit more. I’ll try to update weekly since this story has been bugging my writing time wanting to be ‘born’.

I am, as those who have been following my other stories probably noticed, a slow writer, and used to be even slower when I had to handwrite my ideas and then type them (can’t carry the desktop computer everywhere with me). I can only say that the invention of the tablet PC might make me write faster (I positively adore the thing, this whole story was written by hand on a tablet PC which converted my handwriting to a word document. NO MORE TYPING!:) ).

About my other stories, Unexpected Child is giving me one MAYOR migraine (past headache now) even though I have drafted a lot of the story I just can’t seem to get it to flow nicely, yet I’m still working on it. Apprentice‘s next chapter should be out really soon, just giving it the final touches before I send it to be betaed. The same happens to Second Chance (I had to do some corrections with the timeline). For those who have read my Inuyasha story Present Time, I’m still not giving up on finishing it one day, but I’ve been having one hell of a time to get the muse to go back to it.

Summary: There was a reason why the ‘Sorting Hat’ wanted Harry Potter in Slytherin. Now after the death of his Godfather and being pushed to the limit by Dumbledore, he is about to show the manipulative Headmaster who he truly is. Forcing Harry into a marriage contract and bond with Snape, in hopes of controlling both, has left the young wizard with nothing to loose. Dumbledore is not going to like the surprises Harry has in store for him.

I just made some changes today to the story, nothing mayor, but it might need re-reading this chapter before I post the next which should be ready by tomorrow. It is mostly finished, but I’m not completely happy with it.

It really is not completely related to that story, but sometimes it happens that I just go off into one direction when something call my rather over active imagination and the muses run off with the idea. So here it is the first draft of it. Needs a lot of work before it makes it to either ff.net or my own site.

Notes: This is a revision of what is revision 12 of this story (It is not much different t in the beginning but I made a lot of changes later. Also this is a better start of the story) first post I have added a lot to this and there’s really a lot more to the story, as soon as I have typed revisions 2 to 11 then I’ll post them to the journal.

Dear Mr. Potter,

We at the Department of Improper Use of Magic, hope this letter finds you well. The purpose of this missive is to inform you that after the events of the previous summer as well as the recent events at the Ministry of Magic, we have conducted a thorough revision of your particular case and the use of accidental magic at your residence and surrounding area.

We were consternated to find that for reasons unknown to any of those currently laboring at this department the detection wards were set to maximum. What this means Mr. Potter is than any magic performed at your current residence and surrounding your current residence would automatically be credited to you.

Further investigation proved that during your second year the magic performed at your residence was house elf magic. We extend our sincerest apologies for the problems the wrong settings of your magic detectors may have caused you. Be assured your records have been updated and we are currently looking for the culprit of this… apparent error.

This office determined after the events of the prior two weeks that it is not safe for you to remain subjected to the under age restrictions on magic use. As you and Headmaster Dumbledore had been warning us for the previous year, You-Know-Who is back land you Mr. Potter are among his main targets.

We cannot in good conscience deny you the opportunity to defend yourself, your family, and further your training with that goal in mind. From the moment you place your wand on this parchment the age restriction monitors placed on it, your person and your residence will be removed. This will also give you the benefit of being considered an adult wizard with all the consequent rights and obligations.

Your new adult status cannot be revoked, be either our… esteemed Minister of Magic or the Wizengamot. We trust you’ll be a responsible adult Mr. Potter.

Lastly we at the Department of Improper Use of Magic would like to extend our sincerest apologies for our current Minister of Magic’s oversight and absolute lack of trust and belief. None of us shares his views. Because of this, we would like to extend our support to you and Professor Dumbledore.

Improper Use of Magic

Harry just stared at the parchment gobsmacked. The poor boy was really having a difficult time processing what he just read. A whole department at the Ministry of Magic was on his side? Well Fudge was a moron; it was good to see that others saw this too. But what was that about him being considered an adult? Was this letter even real? It could well be a Joke, and yet not even the twins would Joke about something like this. Not when it could get him expelled. So this had to be the real thing. These people really did not know what a gift they had given him. It meant that he was his own person, and longer depended on a guardian, at least on the Wizarding world; and as soon as he turned sixteen not even in the muggle world. Dumbledore could not control his life, not completely anyway. Harry would finally have a say, perhaps now things would get better.

With some trepidation he picked his wand from the nightstand and placed it on the parchment. A faint yellowish glow covered it, and then it surrounded him like a mist. There was a tingling sensation that ran through his whole body before the mist disappeared. He felt strangely light, like some weight was lifted from his body. Harry thought this odd, but attributed it to the monitoring spells being removed.

“So that’s it?” Harry muttered and Arien cooed as if to confirm it. This brought a small smile to the boy’s face. He then decided to take the risk and test if he was indeed allowed to do magic. Pointing his wand towards Arien’s soiled sheets he said, “Scougrify.” The sheets were now clean, so he waited nervously for the Ministry’s owl to appear. When after several tense minutes it became clear that no owl was coming he let out a happy whoop of triumph.
