I know this is the old version and you are rewriting the story but an ophthalmologist is a preofessional eye/retinal surgeon. I believe you mean that Inuyasha needed to see an optometrist, they are the ones that prescribe glasses/contacts for people. You wouldn’t go see and eye surgeon until after you’d seen an optometrist. Just thought I’d mention it.

Actually, Opthamologists also do glasses perscritiopns.  I know this because my middle child goes to the pediatric optamologist at least every six months to get her glasses rx changed.  So long as that is up to date, she won’t have eye muscle surgery.  While a simple pair of glasses can be perscribed by an optometrist, an opthamologist can rule out a lot of other things.  In short, the othamologist can do a more thorough evaluation.  It would make sense for Inuyasha to go to one for that reason alone at least initially.  Since they now know it isn’t particularly serious, it would make sense for future appointments to be with the optometrist.
