Summary: There were things that Harry had forgotten that happened the summer before his fifth year at Hogwarts. He remembers now, and it added to his pain and loss, but he also found family and a reason to keep on fighting.
Knowing that she would not live very long when she found she was pregnant, Naiya began to settle her affairs. After much thinking and discrete observation she decided on informing Petunia Dursley of her connection to Harry. The woman at first had been extremely hostile, and called her every name imaginable. Naiya realized that it was not only righteous indignation that made Mrs. Dursley furious, there was a small, very small sliver of concern for her nephew. No matter that Harry had consented to have sex, she was an adult, and he a minor it was against the law and considered rape.
The Lubowen was able to slowly gain the woman’s trust, once she was able to explain about her people’s customs. Mrs. Dursley realized there was more than just witches and wizards around; and that she probably knew several races that chose to pretend being muggles. They began to talk often and they even became friends. Especially after Naiya discovered that Petunia was a witch; she had always had the potential to use magic but it was blocked so well that it was almost imperceptible. At first they had were baffled about the reasons for the block, and after much delving into early memories by the Lubowen they discovered that a traumatic incident when Petunia was only three years old had made her unconsciously block any access she had to magic.
A large rabid dog had attacked the three year old girl; her magic had protected the little girl by flinging the dog away from her into a wall. The animal died from a broken neck and Petunia had been so traumatized by what happened that she never again displayed any sign of magic. Naiya removed the block and took it upon herself to teach the newly found witch how to use her magic. Petunia was only of average power, but it was enough to do most chores and had she displayed more magic it would have earned her a place at Hogwarts just like Lily’s had.
With the discovery of her magical nature Petunia began to realize how awful she had behaved towards her younger sister and her nephew. She also began to open her eyes to what her life had become the moment she married Vernon Dursley. He had not changed in the seventeen years they had been together, and the woman realized that had Harry not been living with them, her husband would have turned towards her and Dudley to relieve his anger. Her scrawny nephew made a convenient punching bag for her husband’s and her son’s frustrations or just fun. By allowing it she had not been any better than them. She also realized that had Harry told anyone they would have probably ended doing time in prison for criminal negligence and child abuse.
Dudley also became a focus of her thoughts; she could no longer lie to herself. No matter how much she loved her son, she had to admit that he had turned into another Vernon, and she had encouraged that behaviour. It worried Petunia that she was probably too late to correct her mistakes; trying to discipline Dudley now would not yield any results. He would just ignore her or turn to Vernon for ‘support’. She soon realized her child was considered a thug by the neighbors and feared by all young children. He also had a criminal record -for beating younger children, stealing, and vandalizing- that Vernon had somehow ‘forgotten’ to mention to her, but that he was ‘oddly’ proud off.
As time passed, Petunia grew more discomfited with her life as the wife of Vernon Dursley, if she could call spending most of her time gossiping with the neighbours and watching the TV a life. In a way, Naiya had a lot to do with this change in attitude. She encouraged Petunia to broaden her horizons, to read, learn, and think for herself. The both of them could usually be seen out together, and Petunia’s support had become important during the Lubowen’s difficult pregnancy. Between them they devised what to do in case Naiya finally decided to complete the Daramy Ritual and let Harry remember their relationship and learn about his children.
