Hidden as Snape’s Daughter by carvell

Summary: Dumbledore never makes it to Harry’s trial (summer of 5th year) and Harry is sentenced to Azkaban to be kissed. Snape rescues him and Harry is hidden in plain sight, as Snape’s daughter; he ends up in Slytherin. Only Snape knows who he really is, the rest of the world thinks he’s dead from the Dementor’s kiss. No romance whatsoever.

Author’s Note: I’m basing this story on the challenge, although I’m not following it completely. Harry will be much younger. I wanted to try my luck at adding two other characters that are usually minor and last but not least there will eventually be some romance, although not for a while, and not for Harry. She is too young for that.

This story is just in the beginning stages, so I only have about three chapters captured in the computer, plus a whole lot of notes and ideas.

Chapter 09

Getting everyone to eat required blackmail, several death threats, as well as threats of humiliation, besides a heavy dose of sarcasm. But he got everyone to at least have a few spoonfuls of the savoury stew the elves prepared. The students concerned him mostly, and of them Granger was the one that needed more attention. The moment the food was on the table she turned rather green. How come Molly did not notice? Really, Gryffindors had to be the most oblivious people he had seen. Severus shook his head.

A discrete Pregnancy Detection Spell confirmed the girl’s and his own, suspicions. She was pregnant. Six weeks along. He had Lippe bring him a Nutrient Potion with Folic Acid. It was specially formulated for pregnant witches. The potions was extremely complicated, and not many brewed it. He made a hefty income of selling it to St. Mungos, and the apothecary in Hogsmeade. Students in detention were quite useful in preparing the ingredients he needed for the potion.

Severus also requested a Stomach Soothing Draught, besides Danielle’s potions. It was time for her next doses. Severus sat besides the Gryffindor’s Know-It-All with Danielle on his lap. His new daughter had no appetite, and he had to coax her to eat. Going so far as to spoon feed her. It shocked her enough, she stopped protesting, and ate what he gave her from the bowl they shared. He was not hungry either, but he realized with chagrin he had to set the example.

The Professor presented the potions discretely to Granger, who gasped in shock. Even grief stricken the girl was not slow on the uptake. She paled even more, and stared at him with dread, and fear filled eyes.

She had heard them speak about Legilimency, and while she did not know -yet- what it was. She was able to deduct it was some type of Mind Reading. “You saw Sir?” Hermione’s voice shook.

“I did,” he responded in a surprisingly kind tone. He cast a Muffliato around them. He noticed she and Danielle sensed his spell. It surprised him, not many were sensitive enough to detect magic being cast subtly.

“Am I expelled?” Trepidation and fear filled her voice. Hogwarts Rules were clear. No pregnant students were allowed.

“No, you are not Miss Granger. You, Madam Bones, the Headmaster, and myself need to speak in private to see what can be done,” he paused. “After dinner.”

Hermione did not feel like talking, but knew the Professors would insist. Snape in particular would not let it rest. He could be relentless, like a hippogryff with a ferret. “OK Sir.” What choice did she have? She pushed her plate away from her.

“Eat Miss Granger. It’s clear you have not been eating properly this summer break, and you need the nourishment.” Again his voice was kind. She looked at him surprised. The girl was too frail emotionally, and he frankly was too worn out to be scathing to the young witch. She required support, not condemnation. “Do not fear, we will find the best possible solution to your problem.”

Danielle wanted to know what was wrong with her friend, and Severus hesitated for a moment. It was the girl’s story to tell, but he was sure Granger would not tell a strange six year old child what her problem was. So he decided that he would tell Danielle part of the problem without revealing too much. He told the little girl they would talk later about it.

After dinner he had his child take her potions. There was a dose of Sleeping Potion amongst them, and she was out like a light. Unfortunately she was too young to have Dreamless Sleep Potion. He knew she would have a very difficult night, probably fraught with nightmares, and she truly needed a full night of rest. His earlier Diagnostic Spells revealed she had not been sleeping well for several months.

The Order dispersed after eating, leaving only the Weasleys, Albus, Kingsley, Amelia, Minerva, and Granger. The red headed family left after they secured a room for their youngest. Severus offered them a house-elf to watch over her, and asked Hersy for a volunteer. He believed in treating his elves well. As they left the room, he made sure all of them had a dose of Dreamless Sleep Potion. Molly ushered Granger to her bedroom, but Severus told her there were things they needed to discuss with the young witch.

“Let us move to a more comfortable room,” he said and called Hersy.

The elf informed him the parlour was ready, as were most of the bedrooms. Including the master suite in case he decided to stay the night. They all moved to the parlour, and he settled Danielle on one of the couches with a one way Silencing Charm. One of the elves brought him a blanket to cover her, and a pillow. They all looked at him rather surprised by the gentleness he demonstrated with the little girl. At the moment he was too weary to care what anyone thought; and the night was not over yet. He sat on the couch with Danielle, and spoke once they were all sitting.

“Potter was not the only grievously abused child in Gryffindor,” he began. Granger curled a bit into herself, not daring to look anywhere but at her clasped hands.

“Potter was not abu …” Minerva began protesting. She had not been privy to the conversation they had with Albus when they arrived.

“Sadly Minerva,” Albus interrupted. “He was terribly abused by those muggles. I … made one of the worst mistakes of my life leaving him there.” The witch turned to look at him in shock.

“I told you Albus! I told you not to leave him there, they …”

“It is mooth point Minerva,” Severus interrupted the beginnings of what would clearly become a long rant. “The boy is dead. There is not much we can do for him, except to bring those animals to justice.”

“They will be Severus,” Amelia assured them. “I have already sent Aurors to arrest them.” He nodded at her.

“The issue is, he was not the only one. Miss Granger as well has been subjected to abuse by her parents. Please Granger, remove the Runic Glamour.”

“Professor?” Hermione asked. She had not healed quite as well as she expected. It had been two weeks since she arrived to Grimmauld Place, but she was still a mess. She still hurt.

“That woman,” he spat, “ran you over with her car!” Those present actually gasped. “From what I saw, it was your magic that saved you child. A muggle would have died.” He paused to let that sink in. It would hurt her to know her mother actually tried to kill her, but he would not lie to her. “You were injured, and have not treated those injuries. If you allow me, I will see to them.” His voice went soft, and kind.

Tears began rolling down her cheeks. “She was angry, she … He … he’s her husband … I … deser …”

“No. You.did.not.deserve.it.” Severus stressed.

“I did! I did! I knew it was so wrong to let him do … to … have sex,” she forced herself to say, “with him! I knew! Incest is WRONG!!” She did not notice the Headmaster and the Auror flinch, and the witches let out a soft cry. “It’s so.very.WRONG! But I let him! I didn’t say no. I did all he wanted me to do!” She was crying, and began rocking, as she hugged herself. “I wanted so much for them to love me, to accept me. For so very long, and he said he did. I didn’t want him to stop loving me if I refused to do what he wanted. But … but … she hated me … she hated me so much.”

Severus looked at Minerva hoping that she would offer comfort to the distressed girl, and sighed when he realized the older witch had no idea what to do. She was in shock. Clearly she had never dealt with an abused child. For the umpteenth time that day he sighed. Then he knelt before the distraught child. It would be up to him to offer comfort. Minerva and Albus were useless, and Granger did not know the Aurors.

“Hermione look at me,” his voice was kind and soft. He hoped the shock value would help, and get her to respond to him.

Hermione stared at Professor Snape astounded. She always thought he had such a beautiful voice, and having those warm tones directed at her with kindness was note worthy. She couldn’t just not obey. She looked into his eyes, which were also shockingly kind, but so weary. Soul tired weary, and there was pain in there as well. He was hurting, and she could not help but wonder why. At that moment the ‘Over grown bat of the dungeons’ looked so human.

“Listen carefully, I know you are a smart girl and won’t need me to repeat myself. You are NOT to blame. This is NOT your fault. He ignored and neglected you when you needed him the most, both of them did. Then that monster took advantage of you, of your need for love and attention. Of your love for him.”

“But … I … I knew … and I … I agreed!”

“Did you ever refuse him?” He’d seen one time. It had been extremely traumatic. The man told her so many terrible things, but above all, he hurt her. She nodded and shuddered. “He made sure you never even think of refusing him again, did he not?” She nodded again. The girl keened, and to his immense shock, she clung to him as she began crying her heart out. “It’s all right now Hermione, you are safe here, and I give you my word you won’t be returning to those people.” He leveled a hard glare to both Albus and Minerva.

Chapter 08.

Albus told Severus many times before Harry actually attended Hogwarts, the child of the woman he loved was fine. He informed him Harry was very well taken care off, and even hinted at him being slightly pampered, as well as spoiled. Much like James had been. Those words had not been the truth. Arabella informed him she suspected the Dursley grievously neglected the child. Yet he decided not to remove him from their care. Harry had needed the protection of his mother’s blood, and a little neglect would build character, or so he believed. Had he told Severus of Arabella’s suspicions, he was sure the younger wizard would have paid a visit to the Dursley, and it was bound to end badly; with Petunia refusing to keep Harry, or Severus in Azkaban. The boy needed the Blood Wards, Wards that clearly had never existed according to Severus. Petunia was not related to Lily at all.

What an arrogant fool he was!

A child, one much loved, had suffered greatly because of his blindness and arrogance. He should have let the goblins perform a Heritage Spell, as was the procedure when a child was orphaned, and there were no magical kin. He chose not to. Minerva warned him about the muggles that night so many years ago. Told him the Dursleys were the worst kind of muggle. Even Severus mentioned -more than once- Petunia hated Lily -and magic- since they were children. Did he listen? No, of course not. He was older, and wiser. He knew best.

How could he have forgotten the way he chaffed under the responsibility of caring for Aberforth and Ariana? They too had been his blood, but he felt then they were tying him down. They were a burden, and were cutting off his wings. He did not want to take care of them, and he had loved both his siblings dearly. Still did, despite all that happened.

According to Severus, Petunia did not love her sister. There was actual hate there. He knew they were stranged, and still he decided the woman would be willing to take care of her sister’s orphaned child. That the grudges they had as children would be easily forgiven. He chose to ignore his own experience. The grudge Abeforth held already had over one hundred years, and he was sure it would prolong until either of their deaths. His younger brother would never forgive him. But then, he did not forgive himself either.

The old wizard’s heart was breaking, and guilt consumed him. But from Nymphadora’s emotional outbust, he surmissed the rest of those at Grimmauld Place #12 were in equally bad shape. Or worse. He was still the Order’s Leader, and it was his responsibility to see to them. Even when all he wanted was to find a quiet place to grieve, and regret his many mistakes regarding Harry.

Albus led the way to the kitchen, while he was charged with several crimes against Harry, Kingsley and Amelia would not arrest him just yet. They were furious with him -with reason- but they both understood that with Voldemort back, he would be needed to lead the resistance. He made an Unbreakable Vow to them that he would not flee, and submit to the authorities once the war was over should the Light win.

As to that despicable animagus, the Aurors would take care of immovilizing Sirius, and arresting him. They would also oversee a thorough questioning under Veritaserum. The time was past giving him a fair trial. They could not risk the public knowing what the muggles did to Harry. Not when Tom was on the rise. It would drive people to his side, and innocent muggles would suffer. Not all were like the Dursley.

Also, if he knew Harry -and he was doubting he ever did- the boy would not have wanted his life made public. He disliked the attention, and his fame. The child had actually been very private with his personal life. Yet, they needed to question Sirius. Albus needed to know just how badly he erred regarding the animagus. Severus always told him he was blind as to the true nature of the Marauders … perhaps he had been right all along.

Albus could thank any deity that listened, that Amelia Bones was seeing reason, and agreed not to dispense justice through the Ministry Channels. The animagus knew too much, and could put in danger the other Order members. Specially Severus. Sirius Black was still wanted for betraying the Potters, and while it was not true, he was to be Kissed by a Dementor on sight. He was innocent of that crime, but what he did to Harry, carried a life sentence in Azkaban by law. The breaking of his Godparent Vows in such a heinous way was punished by the magic itself. It would take the animagus life, after forfeitting all his material assets in compensation.

As they entered the kitchen, the sight that greeted them was depressing. The mutt and the wolf were moments away from passing out drunk. From what they could see, both wizards had at least consumed three bottles of Fire whiskey between them. That made the Auror’s jobs so much easier. Neither would present much resistance. Kingsley informed him they would be questioning Remus as well, Harry’s memories were rather incriminating.

Albus did explain that while Sirius did not have full control of the Wards, he had some. He was a Black, and as such, the house would protect his secrets if he asked it to. Which clearly he had, since no one noticed a thing. Albus knew neither Remus, nor Molly would allow the animagus to harm Harry in such a horrible way. Specially the red headed matron. She loved Harry like one of her own, and she fiercely protected her children. It was clear to him that the house hid what Sirius was doing. Still, at least those two would be questioned.

Arthur, and several other Order members were not far behind Lupin, and the mutt. In one corner of the kitchen Molly was prostrated in grief, crying her heart out. There was no denying the matron did love Potter like one of her own. Someone had Conjured a cot for her; Vance and Jones sat by her side trying to comfort the bereaved witch without much success as they too were crying, and probably suffering from mild shock. They both were mothers as well and could sympathize with the loss.

From all of them, the brats were the worst off. They were nearly catatonic, except Miss Weasley. She was out cold, lying on a cot. Tonks informed them they had to Stupefy her. The girl went hysterical, and out of control when she heard the news of Potter’s death. Granger had a lost look, and did not seem aware of what was happening around her. She probably did not notice that tears had not stopped falling from her eyes. No one had eaten since the boy left in the morning, and with Molly out of commission, there was no one to see to the children.

Severus sighed. He did not like Gryffindors, but he could understand grief. He knew that all of them loved Potter dearly, and Danielle loved them still. He could see how distraught she was at seeing the condition her friends were in. Danielle did not need more stress. He cast a Muffliato- a spell he created while still at school- around them so they could talk without fear of being overheard.

“Do not worry Danielle, they will be fine … with time,” he reassured her.

“But … I did that!” She cried, tears rolling down her cheeks. “They are hurting because of me! I hurt them! I don’t want them to be in pain.”

“You did not do that to them. Fudge and Umbridge did. There was no choice, Harry Potter had to disappear, to die for you to live.”

“I don’t want them to hurt. It’s not fair!”

“Life is not fair Danielle,” he said with a sigh. “We cannot erase their pain, just as we cannot reveal who you are. It is just too dangerous.”

She sniffled. “Can’t we do anything for them?”

“Not much, besides making sure they eat, drink enough liquids, and perhaps have some potions to temporarily help them manage their grief.”

“Do you think I can help?”

Severus did not respond, as there really was not much the now little girl could do. He cancelled his spell and said to the others. “I’ll see to the children, you take the adults.” That much he could do to assure Danielle her friends would be well taken care off.

“Are you sure my boy …”

“Yes,” Severus told him curtly. “I have dealt with grieving children before. I have been a Head of House for fifteen years, I can handle them.”

“Very well,” Albus acquiesce. Despite what many from other Houses might say, Severus was respected by his snakes. He was actually a much better Head of House than Slughorn, and the two previous Slytherins had been.

“By the way, I am now the house’s master. He broke his Godparent Vows twice.” He informed the Headmaster, then turned to face the children, who had not even noticed the arrivals. “Lippe, Krearcher, Hersy.” The elves ‘popped’ into the room.

“Yes Master Severus,” both Lippe and Hersy said respectfully.

“Yes half-blood Snape,” Krearcher grumbled.

Severus eyed the disgruntled house-elf sternly. “My daughter is your new Mistress Krearcher. I, as her father, am your Master as well.” The elf kept grumbling and muttering, not at all pleased. “You will behave, treat us with respect, and obey like a good house-elf, or you will not be allowed in the house. Understood?” He loomed over the small dirty creature.

“Yes Master,” Krearcher retorted angrily.

“Lippe I require the boxes of Calming Draught, Shock-be-Gone, Hangover Relief, Sober Up, and Dreamless Sleep Potion. They are in my lab,” he paused, “bring also two vials of Veritaserum_, and its antidote please.”

“I’ll be back in a moment Master Severus.” He ‘popped’ away.

“Hersy, please take a look at the house. I require elves to repair, and clean it. The goblin Cleveraxe will provide you with the funds from one of my vaults,” he paused to think for a moment. “There are many Dark and Cursed Objects, as well as rooms. Do you have anyone able to deal with that?”

“I do Master Severus. There are several trained elves.”

“Good.”

“What should they do with the objects Master?”

“Have Cleveraxe open a vault, or empty one of the lesser vaults. Store the items there. I will have a team of Curse Breakers go over them at a later date. I also require at least a couple of elves to see to the kitchen, and one to see to the garden.” He turned to the Black’s old elf. “Krearcher, prove to me it is not a mistake to keep you, and I will allow you to have any object you wish to keep to remind you of your previous family. It will be checked for Curses first, and if it has any, they will be removed before you can keep it.”

Krearcher’s face lightened with happiness. “You will give Krearcher something of kind Master Regulus if Krearcher is being good house-elf?”

“That is correct, now go with Hersy, and show him the house. All of it Krearcher.” There were parts of the house that had been hidden by a previous Head of the Family, and not been available for over a century. The house was actually much larger than what they had seen. He learned about it at Gringotts.

“Krearcher goes!”

“Hersy, send the kitchen elves as soon as possible.”

“Kilia, and Gordi are coming Master Severus.” He ‘popped’ away followed by Krearcher.

Lippe arrived just as they left. Severus took the potions he would need for the children, and made sure the others would take care of providing potions to those who needed them. He sat Danielle on a chair close to the children, so she could see as he worked with them. Kilia and Gordi arrived as well, and he set them to prepare dinner. Something comforting like chicken broth, soup, or stew, and a good amount of tea. There should be enough for everyone present. The elves set to work. Tea would be ready first, just as the first potions began taking effect.

Severus gave Danielle another dose of Calming Draught, and a sip of Shock-Be-Gone. She really was affected by the condition of those present. He did not want her stressed. The first children he saw to were the Weasley twins. They were the eldest of the children, and would be helpful in seeing to the youngest. He might not be too fond of the twin buffoons, but it pained him to see the both of them so striken. Anyone with eyes could see they too cared for the green eyed boy very much.

In their condition, it was not hard to Legilimize them. Since he was able, he wanted to make sure who knew about Ronald’s, and Ginevra’s theiving activities. Neither were aware of what their two youngest siblings were doing, but they did have the brat’s TriWizard money prize. The foolish boy gave it to them. At least he established those clowns were true friends to the boy. He would tell Danielle once they were back at Spinner’s End. He hoped it would comfort her.

The next was Granger, she did not know either, and was actually incapable of betraying her first friend. Her best friend. She adored the boy, but it was not in a romantic sense. The Know-It-All understood him well … too well.

From experience.

Severus sighed. How come Minerva never noticed she had two severely abused children in her House? Hell, why were those two in Gryffindor and not Slytherin? Or Ravenclaw in Granger’s case? Filius got his share. Children that took refuge in books, just like Granger did. Things were nearly as bad as they had been for Potter, and he made his mind then. She would not be going back to those people.

Hermione Granger was an unwanted child. Neither of the doctors Granger wanted children. But contraceptives fail some times, and the girl was the result. They had neglected, and ignored the poor girl mostly. The physical -and sexual- abuse was relatively recent. The moment she hit puberty. The father began noticing her then, and not in a paternal way.

The mother knew. Instead of protecting her child, she was insanely jealous. She was the physical, and emotional abuser. Granger too wore Runic Glamours, although by that time her bruises seemed to be fading. To make matters worse, she suspected she was pregnant. He sighed again. Severus would inform Amelia and Albus later so charges could be brought against the parents.

Ron Weasley was a self-centered, obnoxious, close-minded, and jealous brat. Still, against all odds, he did care about Potter -like a younger brother- beyond seeing him as his personal money bag. Severus shook his head, the red head was a walking contradiction. Potter’s death affected him as well. At least most of what he took he used to pay for his, and his siblings education.

It seemed the Weasleys finances were in even direr conditions than anyone thought. Lucius Malfoy was making things very difficult for the red headed family. The boy heard his parents discussing what to do. Without the discounts, they could only pay for two of their school age children. They might have to separate the twins, and neither of them had the adequate grades, or discipline, to request either a scholarship, or a student loan.

Severus would inform Danielle later. Once she knew that at least most of what Ronald took was for an actual good cause, she might decide to keep helping them. She would probably end forgiving the red headed idiot. He did not mind, but he would set some conditions. Those children owed Danielle their education, and they wasted it. The twins were actually quite brilliant at Potions, Charms, and Transfiguration. If only they applied themselves to their studies more.

The last he checked was Ginevra. He Enervated her, went into her mind, and came out of it as fast as he could once he was able to make sense of the chaos, and … insanity there. He cast a Stupefy on her, and for good measure three Dormus. Severus did not want to take any chances of her waking up. It was too dangerous for her, and anyone else around.

“Merlin’s balls!” He swore, and shuddered. There were only two minds that he had ever encountered that could compete with Ginevra’s. The Dark Lord’s, and Bellatrix’s.

“Severus!” Albus, Amelia, and Kingsley exclaimed in shock at his reaction.

He shuddered again. Out of the corner of his eye he saw one of the twins pointing his wand at his sister. “Do not revive her!” he ordered in his sternest voice.

“Why … not … Professor?” They asked in their normal twin speach.

He did not respond to their question. Instead he turned to Albus and Arthur. “Why in Merlin’s name was Miss Weasley not sent to a Ritual Cleansing, several actually, and the Mind Healers after she was possessed by the Dark Lord Headmaster?”

“He did suggest it Severus,” Arthur said. “We … we couldn’t afford it.”

“It was not an option Arthur, and Hogwarts should have covered the expenses, as she was … hurt by a Dark Artifact that should not have passed through the Wards,” he told them gravely. “The Dark Lord caused severe damage, contamination, and corruption of both her mind and her soul. It has not been noticeable because she was obsessed with being Potter’s wife. But Potter is … gone now, unavailable to her. I regret to be the one to inform you, but your daughter is extremely dangerous. I am uncertain at this point whether Ritual Cleansing, and Mind Healers would be able to do anything for her, besides keeping her in a secure ward at St. Mungos. Perhaps they may be able to heal her.” The girl was on her way to becoming a good pupil to Bellatrix.

“You Legilimized my daughter?” Molly screeched. “You have no right!”

“Your daughter had to be Stunned Molly,” he stressed. “She was out of her mind, and out of control according to Tonks’ report. She was a danger to herself and the other children. As the Order’s Healer it is my duty to assess her mental condition to provide her with adequate treatment,” He informed the matron. “Legilimency is the only way to do that.”

“You could still have asked.” Molly sulked.

“Perhaps,” he conceeded. It appeased the red headed matron slightly. “Miss Weasley needs professional help urgently, beyond what I can provide for her, apart from keeping her sedated all the time; which is not ideal. She is not …” Sane was the word he wanted to use, but new it was going to break the adult Weasley’s heart to hear it. He was not that cruel, specially to people who had treated him fairly as those two had. “All right,” he ended saying. “Her mind has been corrupted, and due to the amount of time that has lapsed, that corruption has not only expanded to her soul, it had rooted in her being. Had I not used Legilimency tonight, we would not have discovered the problem until we were faced with a witch fit to compete with Bellatrix LeStrange. Thankfully she has not reached that stage yet. ”

“No!” Molly wailed horrified. “Not my Ginny Severus. She’s a sweet caring girl. A good daughter. She can’t be like … like THAT witch!” Arthur held her offering support, as well as receiving it from her.

Severus sighed. He had been doing that quite a lot lately. “I really regret giving you these terrible news on top of everything. Unfortunately they could not be postponed. Her obsession with Potter was what kept her relatively … stable, and … harmless. The boy is no longer alive, no longer available for her. There is nothing holding her back now. She wants revenge, and will get it at any cost.”

“I …” Arthur did not know what to do. His little girl needed help, but he did not have the money. His Ministry health plan did not cover mental illnesses. Their only option would be to take all the boys out of Hogwarts, and hope their anonymous benefactor would still continue to fund them. He hoped the boy’s would understand. “We’ll send Ginny to the Mind Healers.”

“Arthur we …” Molly began to protest. They didn’t have the money to pay for them.

“I am sorry boys,” he said to his sons. Ginny’s health had to be more important. “You will have to finish your education at home.”

“Harry … gave … us … his … winnings … to … start … our … shop … You … can … have … them Dad.” The boys were shocked at what happened to their little sister, and while their dream of having their own joke shop would be delayed, Ginny was more important.

“Severus,” Danielle said shyly, not used to the name. Her heart was aching for the Weasleys. She loved them so very much. They had been the only family she had known, and they were hurting so. She had to help them.

He went to the tiny girl, and crouched before her to be at eye level. “Yes Danielle?” He suspected what she was going to say. He would let her, they were wealthy enough now. They did not need the money, but the Weasleys did.

“We … we have my … my cousin’s money … right?” She stammered a bit. It felt weird to talk about himself … herself that way. She hoped Snape … Severus would get her meaning.

“That is correct,” he confirmed. Then for those present’s benefit he explained. “Your aunt Lily, Potter’s mother, left instructions in her Will in case something befall her only child before he had his own Will, or a family of his own. Her half sister -your mother- and her children would inherit his belongings.” There was a chorus of gasps.

“Mum …” she hadn’t known this aunt, but she was not lying as she went on. “My Mum is dead.” Her tone was flat; and Lily Evans was indeed dead. There were gasps and a ‘Poor dear’ from Missus Weasley. “You said my cousin loved them, right?” Snape nodded. “We … we don’t need that money, do we?” He shook his head a couple of times. “They … they can have it, can’t they? I … I think he would have liked that, wouldn’t he?”

“I am certain Potter would have given the Weasley family the contents of his Trust Vault if he had made a Will. There is enough to cover the best possible treatment for Miss Weasley for as long as necessary. Is this what you truly want Danielle?” She nodded, he raised an eyebrow, and she finally said.

“Yes, that’s what I want.”

Severus actually gave her a tiny, approving smile. Then he stood and faced the dumbfounded Weasleys, and the rest of the Order, minus Black, and Lupin. No one had really noticed when Amelia and Kingsley took them away. Albus had followed to show them where to lock them up until they were able to question them. They were back already.

“Do not concern yourself about the expenses from your daughter’s medical bills Arthur. We will cover it from Potter’s vault. There is not as much as many believed, but there is enough for that.”

“The Potters were amongst the wealtiest pure bloods Snape!” Dedalus Diggle protested.

“Indeed,” he agreed. “Until James Potter got his hands on it. He wasted the whole Potter fortune in record time. The goblins were not pleased with him. It was actually Lily who salvaged some of it for her son’s upkeep and education.” Turning to Arthur he added, “regarding your son’s tuitions, we can discuss them at a later date.”

“The boy’s tuitions?” Molly asked surprised.

“Severus, that is … so generous of you, and your daughter …” He was overwhelmed. “But I … I cannot accept it.”

“Arthur, do not allow your pride to get in the way of your daughter’s well being, and your sons’ education. The money for your daughter’s treatment has no strings attached. It is not charity either. Even I was aware of how much Potter loved your family. I am positive the brat would have left you the contents of his vault had he ever made a Will. He did not, but I must admit that no fourteen year old child thinks about their own mortality, or at least very few do.”

“I … I just don’t know …”

“He was already helping your family,” he said and looked pointedly at Ronald. “Where do you think the anonymous contributions came from?”

The red headed boy paled, clearly understanding his meaning. The boy realized his ‘Greasy Git of a Potions Professor’ knew Potter had not been the one to give the money to his parents. Ronald was surprised that Snape was covering what he did. He would have thought the slymy Slytherin would be out for his blood, and ready to accuse him of being a thief, yet he had not.

Molly let out a strangled sob, and tears flowed from her eyes. “That was Harry?” Only the Calming Draught kept her from a crying outburst.

“Yes, that was the boy Molly.” Severus looked at Ronald, and saw him cringe, but he was not going to deny it. He would not admit he stole it from his best friend. Severus locked eyes with Arthur for a moment. “Accept it. My daughter has no need of it. Her education and upkeep are assured.”

“A Professor’s salary is not that different from a Ministry worker Severus,” Arthur pointed out.

“It is not,” he agreed. “I only have one child to take care off though. I am also the last male of the Galanos blood line. The moment I was granted Danielle’s guardianship, I was able to collect my inheritance. As you can imagine, money is not a problem any more.”

“The Galanos Death Eater?” Mad Eye spat. He was a late arrival. “Everyone knows they were a Light family. You cannot claim kinship.”

“Felitza Galanos married Jeremiah Prince, Auror. They were my maternal granparents. So yes I do claim kinship to the Galanos line. I am, in fact, its Head,” he sneered at the scarred Auror. He had surprised Moody. No true Dark Wizard could be Head of a Light Family. The Family Rings and magic would not accept them.

“Master Severus, dinner is ready,” Kilia informed him.

“Thank you Kilia,” he told the elf, and the dunderheaded lot gaped. Idiots! Just because he had to ‘pretend’ to side up with blood purist, and was … friends of a sort with the Malfoys, it did not mean he adhered to their beliefs and actions against muggles, muggle born, and house-elves.

Hidden as Snape’s Daughter by carvell

Summary: Dumbledore never makes it to Harry’s trial (summer of 5th year) and Harry is sentenced to Azkaban to be kissed. Snape rescues him and Harry is hidden in plain sight, as Snape’s daughter; he ends up in Slytherin. Only Snape knows who he really is, the rest of the world thinks he’s dead from the Dementor’s kiss. No romance whatsoever.

Author’s Note: I’m basing this story on the challenge, although I’m not following it completely. Harry will be much younger. I wanted to try my luck at adding two other characters that are usually minor and last but not least there will eventually be some romance, although not for a while, and not for Harry. She is too young for that.

This story is just in the beginning stages, so I only have about three chapters captured in the computer, plus a whole lot of notes and ideas.

Chapter 07.

Once Dumbledore told them the Secret, they went inside. The house was eerily quiet. Something that was a rare occurrence since the Weasleys moved into Headquarters. The children were a rambunctious lot, never mind Black, who acted most of the time like a big kid himself. It was Tonks who came out of the kitchen to receive them, eyes puffy and red. Clear signs she had been crying. When she saw the Headmaster and the others she began crying again.

“I received your Patronus Miss Tonks, and called the Order as you requested. What is the problem?” Albus asked concern showing in his voice and face. The young Auror was not the crying type. She was actually a surprisingly tough witch.

“It’s … it’s …” she could not speak as she was crying so hard. “Arthur … he came …”

“Calm yourself Auror Tonks!” Amelia ordered the young witch. It was a tragedy, but the young witch should be able to make a report. That was part of her training as an Auror.

To her credit the metamorphmagus tried to get herself under control. “I … I apologize Madam.”

“Albus Dumbledore, I am here to inform you Harry Potter died today after being Kissed by a Dementor.” At her words the young Auror broke crying in earnest and Dumbledore paled. For a moment it seemed like he would fall to his knees, but the old wizard placed a hand on the wall for support.

“Harry dead? No, no you must be wrong!” He could not believe the older witch’s words. The boy could not be dead. “It was only an audience to clarify his use of magic during the break! How could he have been Kissed?” He could not help the incredulity in his voice.

“It was a set up Dumbledore,” Kingley’s voice was grave. The Order of the Phoenix’s Leader paled even further.

“A set up?” He asked not understanding exactly where Kingsley was going.

“Yes, it was never truly about the boy’s use of magic, or the ‘supposed’ breach of the Statute of Secrecy. Cornelius Fudge wanted the boy out of the way,” Amelia informed the old wizard.

“The so called ‘audience’ took place ahead of schedule, in courtroom ten before the whole Wizengamot.” Kingsley’s tone changed to barely contained anger. “Where were you Headmaster? You promised Potter to be there, that he wouldn’t be alone. Yet he was. Arthur was not allowed in the courtroom, and that boy needed someone who knows the laws to defend him.”

“But … Harry cast his Patronus in self defense! The law allows it!” Albus exclaimed in shock. He knew the laws well. It was part of his job as Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot.

“As I said, it was truly not about the misdemeanor, although they made it look that way so the Wizengamot would be in their favour. Neither Fudge, nor Umbridge allowed Mister Potter the opportunity to explain and defend himself, as is everyone’s right. The questions made him look guilty, and I was not given the opportunity to cross examine. Against procedure, Fudge called for a vote. The Wizengamot members were already annoyed at being called for a misdemeanor, and a last minute change of time. They found Mister Potter guilty.” Amelia informed him.

“He should have gotten a fine, or at worst his wand broken and an expulsion. It doesn’t explain why you believe him dead.” Severus was alive, his Unbreakabale Vow would have killed him if Harry was dead.

“To be truthful, I believe the Wizengamot was expecting a fine Dumbledore. Unfortunately, Fudge and Umbridge had other ideas. Our esteemed Minister used one of his remaining Ministerial Edicts …”

Dumbledore could not help to interrupt. “WHAT?” Fudge used a Ministerial Edict?

“… to sentence an innocent child to a Dementors Kiss as soon as he set foot in Azkaban.” Amelia went on.

“WHAT?” Severus exclaimed.

While he was supposed to know Potter was dead, he was not supposed to know the details of said death. He played his part perfectly, just as Amelia and Kingsley were doing. Danielle simply pressed herself closer to him trembling with remembered fear at what she was put through that morning.

“But … that is … inconceivable! Not even Bellatrix LeStrange was sentenced to the Kiss!” Something Severus always wondered about. The crazy witch did deserve one.

Albus leaned heavily against the wall, his face ashen. “Why?” His voice was filled with shock. “Why would Cornelius do that? He has already discredited Harry through the Daily Prophet.”

“Now I understand,” Severus mused continuing with his acting. “It was pure greed.” What he learned at the bank explained those two reasons quite clearly.

“Indeed Severus,” Kingsley agreed.

“What do you know of this Severus?” The old wizard asked the Potions Master.

“My daughter and I were summoned to Gringotts this afternoon. Danielle is … or was up until this morning, Potter’s half cousin. The full explanations can wait for a later date. Suffice it to say, Lily only had one older half sister, and it is not Petunia Dursley. Danielle’s mother was Elizabeth Morrison, bastard child to Lily’s father. There was an addendum to Lily’s Last Will and Testament. Should something happen to her son before he reached adulthood, or had a family, everything would go to his next of kin. Elizabeth, and/or her children.”

“You knew?” Albus accused. It had not sunk in what Severus said about Petunia Dursley not being Lily’s sister.

“I was informed at Gringotts, yes. While I was there, I was not able to send a message to you, as you well know. It was there that I found there was a vault the Ministry set for Potter. It seems they wanted to keep all the valuables the people sent to the-boy-who-lived. Unfortunately for them, the clerk used an available Potter vault. Only a Potter, or their heirs, can give access to such a vault. The ministry could not take the many valuable assets Potter received unless he was killed or de-souled; and believe me Albus, Potter was problaby the wealthiest wizard in Great Britain. If there was no magical kin, everything would have passed into Cornelius Fudge’s, and Dolores Umbridge’s hands. They were not aware of Danielle’s existance. She inherited all, and they lost everything.”

“I do not understand how your daughter can be related to Harry Severus. Petunia …”

“Were you not listening Albus?” Severus sounded exasperated. “Petunia is not related to Lily. I surmiss she was adopted or some such thing. There were never any Blood Wards in that place. Potter was never safe …”

“When did you found out about Petunia?” Albus demanded. It was information that he should have received immediatly. He knew the boy’s life was not good at that place, but he deemed it a necessary evil in exchange for the protection of Blood Wards. But according to what Severus was telling him, there had never been any type of protection at Privet Drive # 4.

“Four months ago, when I found out about Danielle’s existence. Jeremiah requested a Heritage Spell in his Will, to confirm that I was indeed a Prince,” he sneered. “I found out then. Elizabeth was unsuitable to take care of a coakroach, much less a child. I requested guardianship of my daughter. That is the reason why I did not inform you. I suspected you might just decide to leave Potter and my daughter with a drug addicted, abusive prostitute, even when it was clearly more dangerous. As it is, my daughter was almost killed by the bastard that woman was dating.”

“Harry can’t be dead Severus, you are alive. The Vow …”

“You cancelled my Unbreakable Vow Albus.” This was something he and the Aurors verified, as the old coot would suspect the boy was alive. “It demanded that I accompany the boy to the Ministry. I would have used Polyjuice. You denied me that. You told me you knew best, and you were the one in charge of overseeing his protection, not me,” he actually snarled. At the moment he was furious with the old wizard. “The Vow released me. I am alive because of your over confidence, unfortunately Potter is dead because of it as well. My daughter would have been left an orphan, as Elizabeth died of an overdose not two days ago.”

Albus’ knees buckled. He could not have erred so badly. Kingsley and Tonks caught him. “The Prophesy …” he began looking at Severus beseechingly.

“It is obviously rubbish, as I have told you time and again Albus. The Dark Lord and you made it self fulfilling,” he sneered at the old wizard.

The old wizard looked at the Aurors reproachfully. “Why did you let him get Kissed?” There was also much pain in his voice. He did love the boy.

“We did not!” Amelia snapped indignant.

“We stalled as much as we could. We had the other Aurors support. We were planning on springing him away …” Kingsley informed him. “But when we reached Azkaban we came across twelve rogue Dementors. It was all we could do to fend them off! We lost two guards as well.”

“You Albus Dumbledore have much to explain.” She directed a steely glare at the old wizard. “To stall I requested Kingsley to Legilimize Mister Potter. What we found chills me to the bone!” She snarled.

“Whatever do you mean Amelia?”

“Albus Wulfuric Percival Brian Dumbledore you are charged with child endangerment, kidnapping,” Harry should have never been with the Dursleys. Lily Evans-Potter Will was clear on that, as Severus found out that afternoon, “conspiracy to commit murder, as well as being an accessory and/or accomplice in the torture -physical and emotional- of a minor, child abuse, child neglect, rape, and attempted murder against Harry James Potter. You are also facing an investigation of your tenure as a Hogwarts Professor, Deputy Headmaster, and Headmaster. It was your duty to investigate Mister Potter’s complaints about his home life. You did not even allow the child to speak.”

The Headmaster stared at her not comprehending what she was saying. Harry abused? Raped? Arabella would have reported it. “I … I don’t understand! Harry was not abused!” He could not be.

“Harry James Potter was brutally abused while in your watch Dumbledore. The Dursley were the main ones. Ever since you left the boy at their doorstep. They even tried to kill, or drown the child when he was younger.” Kingsley’s voice was cold, his face hard and unforgiving. “Care to explain why you told us to remain outside Privet Drive number four Privacy Wards? Inside the boy was being brutally beaten EVERY DAY by those bloody muggles! He was barely fed as well. The danger was INSIDE, not outside.”

“Potter abused? That boy was pampered, and spoiled by his adoring relatives!” Severus sneered, and his voice dripped with disdain.

He knew better now, and Severus would always regret not truly seeing Lily’s child when he needed his protection the most. In his arms, Danielle stiffened. These were her secrets, things she had kept quiet out of fear, and shame; and they were being exposed. He had been exceedingly cruel to the boy Potter had been, calling him pampered, and spoiled. Telling the Gryffindor he was practically worshipped by his relatives, when in truth it was the complete opposite. Reminding him without knowing how awful his life actually was. Lily’s child was reviled, and hurt terribly by those monsters. Potter was treated as bad as a Malfoy house-elf, and expected to work till he dropped, like one of their elves would.

Severus soothed Danielle absently to remove the sting from his words. The scorn in his voice was all an act now, for Albus and Tonks benefit. He rubbed her back gently after he cast a soundless, and wandless, Feather Weight Charm to free one of his arms, as he would not set her down. Not with the subject they were discussing, and specially with Black still on the loose. This did not go unnoticed by those present, even Tonks. Albus and the young Auror looked perplexed on top of the grief they were feeling.

“He was not, quite the contrary,” Amelia informed him gravely. She allowed her distress at her first sight of the child to show. The witch did not think she could ever forgive Dumbledore, and whatever respect she had for him was gone. “We collected his memories as evidence, as we speak there are Aurors arresting those muggles.” That was the first thing she did once she was back at her office. She sent two of her trusted Aurors to arrest the beasts, sister and son included.

“He … he had Accidental Magic Episodes quite often, and he lives in a muggle area.” Albus tried to justify himself for erecting such powerful Privacy Wards.

“Did you bother to check the reasons for those episodes?” Kingsley growled. Too many were signs that something was wrong. It was usually what led to discovering child abuse cases. As Headmaster to a school full of children, the old coot knew that. “That was then Dumbledore. Those outside watching the house were magical. There was no need for secrecy, unless you were covering the abuse the child was being subjected to.” The dark Auror accused.

“No I didn’t know! I knew he was not loved, and might not have been treated like a member of the family, but I never knew he was abused!”

“Of course you didn’t!” Kingsley exclaimed, then he sneered. “You did not allow the boy to tell you, so you could argue precisely that.” Kingsley took out one of the scrolls of the Abusus Historia, and the photos they took of the boy’s condition. “This is his Abusus Historia Dumbledore. It is one of the thickest ever recorded.”

Albus eyes widened in shock. “This can’t be! No, not Harry. He looked just fine last evening!”

“Ever heard of Runic Glamours?” Amelia inquired. The old wizard nodded. “He was wearing one. Some of those injures are very recent. He … he was beaten and raped here, under your so called Order of the Phoenix’s noses, by one of YOUR people.”

“Raped here?” Albus asked feebly. This was a nightmare, his worst nightmare. Not even Tom had been as mistreated as they were telling him Harry had been.

“Yes, his own godfather …” Amelia began.

“Black!? That mutt dared to harm his godchild? How DARE he!? How could he!? Black made the traditional Vows!” Severus played his part, although not all was an act. He was apalled that the mutt DARED to break those sacred Vows.

“Yes,” was the dark Auror’s grim reply.

“No, you must be wrong! Sirius loves Harry!” Tonks protested. She could not believe that her cousin would do something so horrible to his charge, to the boy he swore he loved.

“I saw the memories Tonks. I saw that deranged animal forcefully take what he had no right to,” Kingsley snarled. “He hurt the child he Vowed to protect with his life if need be!”

“You will arrest him.” Albus tone went cold, and his magic swirled angrily. He trusted Sirius with Harry. Trusted he would take care of the boy, and give him the love and affection he knew he was not getting at his relatives home. “He will be Kissed by a Dementor.”

“He will be. No questions asked by the Ministry,” Amelia agreed. It did not mean they were not going to thoroughly question Black. “He will be given to the Dementors we managed to retrieve.”

“When will we get Harry’s body?” A private funeral would be necessary for those who were close to him.

“There is no body Dumbledore.” Kingsley’s voice denoted sadness. “The Dementor threw Potter into the water after it Kissed the boy. I saw him Kissed, but there was nothing any of us could do. The body clearly drowned, as the goblins have acknowledged the boy’s death,” he added looking at Severus to confirm it, which the wizard did with a nod. “By the time we managed to push away the rogues, there was no sign of it. You know the waters surrounding Azkaban seldom release a body that has fallen into them.”

The old wizard sighed. He knew that was true. Few, if any, bodies were ever recovered. Bitter tears fell down his cheeks to be lost in his beard. Beside him, he could see Severus was affected, even when he tried to conceal it. The last of Lily was gone … although, maybe … maybe something remained in his small daughter. The way the younger wizard held the little girl close to his body, and away from him, was quite telling. He was clearly considered a threat. The hard glare directed at him was also a good indication that he would not be forgiven for his lies, and the pain he caused Lily’s child any time soon, if at all. Severus was not a forgiving wizard, and could hold grudges for many years.

Chapter 06

​The potions put the young Gryffindor to sleep. The Gender Bender Perma-Draught, and the Blood Adoption Potion would make physical changes. The process was agonizingly painful for anyone awake. When Harry regained consciousness he would be a fully functional little witch. When she was older, she would be able to have children of her own. Ten minutes later, the changes were through. Harry was a dainty child, who looked no older than four; smaller than Danielle had been. She was not identical to the real girl, but modifying photos would not be too problematic. She was also very pretty despite the healing bruises on her face. Severus ran some Diagnostic Scans. She was still healing nicely, but would require personalized Nutrient Potions. They were on time to correct the damage from malnutrition. The small girl regained consciousness slowly as an owl delivered a letter to Severus.

The letter was from Gringotts. “Well … the Blood Adoption Potion was successful. Gringotts requests Danielle’s and my presence as soon as possible.” This translated as immediately. “It seems there was an addendum to my Prince Grandmother’s Will, as well as Lily’s. In Lily’s case the addendum only activated if her son died single without a Will.”

“So it’s official,” Kingsley stated. “Harry Potter is dead.”

“Yes, and Danielle is safe from the Edict,” Amelia added. “I have now grounds to have Fudge’s, and that toady’s, of his arses for murdering a child.” She turned to Severus. “When are you going to Gringotts?”

“I would have preferred to wait until Danielle …” he was interrupted.

“Harry,” she said cringing at the childish voice.

“No,” Severus said shaking his head. “From now own you are Danielle Henriette Morrison …”

“We made a few more changes Severus,” Kingsley informed him. “You already had full guardianship over your daughter. We took care of the name changes and speeded the ‘official’ notification, it should be here in a few days at most.”

“Thank you, I appreciate that Kingsley. You are no longer Harry Potter,” he told the now girl. “Your new name is Danielle, and it is important that you learn to respond to it.” He turned to Amelia. “As to visiting Gringotts, I would have preferred to wait until Danielle was completely healed, but the goblins do not leave me the option. We will be leaving for the bank shortly.”

“May I suggest a Hair Growth Potion?” Amelia told the men as she observed the new girl critically. The hair was no longer the bird’s nest it used to be. It was curly, and as dark as Severus’. But having hair so short gave her a boyish look that reminded her of the boy she had been, especially because of her eyes. Longer hair would suit her face better as well, and make it easier to keep it in place.

“Why?” Harry asked confused at that suggestion.

“So you look more like a little girl,” Amelia told her and smiled at the child’s grimace of disgust. “I also believe it would suit you better Danny. You make a very pretty girl by the way. Perhaps we should pierce your ears as well.” She went to the small bag that had the real Danielle’s belongings and took out a pair of small gold earrings, a gold bracelet with her name engraved, and a small gold plaque with the engraved inscription ‘Love from Dad’ 27/07/1995. She Scourgify everything making sure the new Danielle could wear them safely. “The original Danielle had them, and she wore these.”

Harry took them, and had a lump in her throat at the inscription; then looked at Snape. “Do you mind if I wear them? They … they were … hers.”

Severus’ voice was a bit hoarse when he responded. “They are yours now. I gave them to her for her sixth birthday.”

“Thank you. What … what do I call you now Sir?”

“Danielle called me Severus at first. She … she began calling me Daddy the last time I saw her. I do not believe either of us are ready for that word yet. Perhaps later it might be possible. I believe I would not be averse to being addressed by it. You may use my first name … or call me Sev. Like your mother used to.”

“OK Severus … Sev … Merlin, that’s weird!”

“I’m sure you’ll get used to it,” Kingsley reassured the tiny girl.

Harry nodded. There was no going back for him … her. Another weird thing; might as well go the whole way. “I guess I’ll take the Hair Growth Potion.”

​Severus Summoned the potion. Then Amelia transfigured Harry’s clothes into a nice pair of jeans, and a feminine blouse. Nothing pink, or too girly, though they had originally been. She had laughed till she cried at the ‘men’ and ‘Danny’s’ expressions when they saw the clothes. Severus looked like he was going to be sick, and Harry actually shuddered. There was, of course, a mix of horror and disgust in their faces as well. Shaking her head she changed the colors to dark blue for the jeans -with some embroidered flowers- and an aqua cotton blouse. She had matching socks, shoes, and ribbons for her hair.

​Harry would need to learn how to be a young lady, and Amelia would see to that. For the moment, being a small tomboy would not do any harm. She braided the girl’s hair, and showed Severus how to do it. She helped him bundle the child in his warmest cloak, as it was cold and raining outside. It had been in London as well. She recommended they visited a few stores to buy the bare necessities for ‘Danny’, as she had nothing to wear.

​Amelia promised to take the girl shopping on the weekend so she had a proper wardrobe, and perhaps some toys. She planned on having her niece Susan with her. It would do Danny good to start getting acquainted with other girls, even if they were older, who could teach her to be more feminine. Besides, Susan adored kids.

​With Harry carefully bundled in the cloak they parted ways at the Apparition point. It was under the bridge that passed over a polluted river close to the house. Severus’ Anti-Apparition Wards reached that far. Being in his arms -anyone’s arms- was awkward for the now young girl. Harry did not remember being carried before. The Dursleys sure never did if they could help it, and he had been too young to remember his parents, or their friends, do it.

​The now father and daughter Apparated to a darkened alley in muggle London. It was raining there as well. The alley was close to the Leaky Cauldron, and Severus made his way to the old pub. He carried her effortlessly, and she was surprised he was so fit. He didn’t look it with the robes he wore. Her new father confessed that lugging large cauldrons and stirring potions did give him strong arms, as most of the times magic could not be used on them. He also practiced Martial Arts at least once a week since the summer of his O.W.L.s.

​The now father and daughter made their way to the back of the Leaky Cauldron. Some people clearly recognized Snape, and looked curious as to why he was carrying a child. None were brave enough to approach him and ask though. Once in Diagon Alley, Severus walked purposely towards Gringotts. They again drew attention from those who recognized him, and Harry did not like it. So acting rather childish, she hid her face on his shoulder. Attention always made her uncomfortable.

​Once in the bank he was directed to Cleaveraxe. He was the goblin in charge of the Prince Family account, and who was shockingly the Potter’s manager as well. He was the one to execute the Will of Feliza Galanos-Prince, Severus grandmother, and of Lily Evans-Potter. With the ‘death’ of Harry James Potter, all that belonged to him passed to her half sister Elizabeth Morrison, and/or her children. In this case, Elizabeth was also dead, so everything went to Danielle.

​What Danielle inherited from James and Lily was a far cry from the ‘amazing’ fortune the Potters were assumed to have. They were supposedly as wealthy as the Malfoys. In truth they were not. James was a terrible manager. He was not interested in anything but spending the money his parents left him. Because of that, the wizard was nearly bankrupt by the time he died. What was shocking -and unforgivable to the goblins- was that he was only twenty one when that happened. He went through a fortune that took generations to amass in less than five years.

​Missus Potter was the one to salvage some of that money for her son. After their deaths most of the money still in the vaults, the Potter properties, and the heirlooms were used to pay James debts. What remained was deposited in Harry’s Trust Vault. Severus cursed the imbecile Lily married. He did not change at all from the spoiled and pampered brat he had been at school, and he had to wonder why Lily married the idiot. Cleaveraxe reported that Harry Potter never asked about his finances, but he had enough to live a comfortable, but not luxurious, life after Hogwarts and to get an apprenticeship.

​The contents of vault 687 were all there was from the boy’s parents’ inheritance. It was not all the boy had though. Sirius Black took the Godparent Vows when he became Harry’s Godfather. Lily demanded that he take them, and it appeared Potter agreed. Black breached one of the Vows by abandoning his Godson to avenge James Potter. For that reason the magic punished him with twelve years of bad luck. His time in Azkaban exactly. Apparently not content with that, the wizard abused his charge in a heinous way a few days ago. The physical and emotional abuse was punished by forfeiting all his money, assets, and titles to his godchild. That was the whole Black fortune; it included Grimmauld Place number twelve. The Blacks were as wealthy as the Malfoys. Since Harry passed away, all that went to his magical next of kin. That meant Danielle.

​Cleaveraxe requested a Heritage Charm to confirm the little girl was entitled to Harry Potter’s other assets. The Charm confirmed it, and revealed there was more. A secret vault the Ministry opened the day after the-boy-who-lived defeated You-Know-Who. They were flooded with mail for the little boy. It ranged from ‘thank you notes’, passing through expensive gifts, money, and Wills. Someone decided to open a vault to store all that. Secretarial and Curse Breaking services were hired for the vault. The correspondence would be sorted, thank you notes sent, and anything dangerous deactivated or destroyed. The last included Portkeys, howlers, and Cursed Objects.

​The Ministry planned to keep anything valuable that was sent to the boy, but the clerk in charge of opening the account made a mistake. She used an existing Potter vault. It had been emptied to pay James debts, but since it had been leased for 300 years and there were still 237 years to go, Harry Potter could make use of it. Using the vault had ‘saved’ the clerk money. What she had not known, was that only a Potter –or those authorized by the Potters- could access the vault. If the boy died or was de-souled without magical kin, the contents of the vault would finally pass to the Ministry. In particular one Cornelius Fudge, and the clerk that opened the vault, Dolores Umbridge. Severus swore long and hard, while Harry trembled. Those bastards tried to kill him for the money! It was never about Voldemort’s return.

​Those two were going to get a shocking surprise. There was magical kin to Harry James Potter, and once the vault passed to Danielle, there was nothing the Ministry could do to get that money. Severus sent a Patronus to Amelia with that information. He issued orders to Cleaveraxe to cooperate with whatever investigation the MLE made in regards to that particular vault. This was the motive Fudge and Umbridge had for getting rid of Harry Potter. The reason why they sentenced a child to a Dementor’s Kiss.

​With regards to Harry there was one last surprise. Phillip Evans -Lily’s grandfather- was related to the Gaunts. He was Morfin Gaunt’s bastard son. How that came to be was something they would never know. Phillip was a squib, but the magic respected the line of succession. The title of Lord or Lady Slytherin passed through him to Douglas -Lily’s father, who was listed as a squib as well- to Lily -the magic preferred those married if available, so it skipped Elizabeth-, to later her son, and now Danielle. This explained why Potter was a Parselmouth, it was not that drivel that Albus spouted.

​The last surprise of the afternoon was the addendum to Felitza Galanos-Prince’s Will. She was from a very wealthy Greek family. The Galanos were a Light family, and they disowned Felitza for marrying Jeremiah Prince -a well-known Dark Wizard. At the time of her death Felitza was the only Galanos left, and the fortune would have gone to her had Jeremiah died before her. Since he survived her several months, it was kept on hold for her grandson. There was only one condition she had, and it was that he produced a heir or heiress. Danielle was now officially a Snape, and his blood child, so the fortune was finally available to Severus.

​The revelations of the afternoon were astounding, and coupled with all that had already happened left Severus shocked. He would need time to absorb all the information and the changes to his life. He was never one to act without at least some thought though. He would not touch any of the monies, and probably the assets until he had time to think things through calmly. His salary as a professor, Head of House, and potions supplier for Hogwarts paid well enough to support him and his daughter. He never really had much to spend his money on, so he had a good amount saved. That should do for the time being. Perhaps only pay to add more protections to Spinner’s End, and change some of his decrepit furniture.

​The Potions Master requested reports and inventories from all vaults, properties, and stock. He hired a team of Warders to tighten Spinner’s End’s and Prince Manor’s security. In Harry’s vault there was a rather large Ward Crystal. They were perfect to anchor and power Wards, it would be put to good use at Spinner’s End, the manor already had one. Cleaveraxe brought to his attention that through the Ministry Vault his daughter inherited a House-Elf breeding and training farm. It was located in England, but they did not sell elves to British Wizards unless they were sure the elves would be treated well and with respect. Most went overseas and to the continent.

​There were currently 167 adult elves, and probably double that number in juveniles and elflings. Prince Manor had five elves, but they were not enough to get the grounds and farm lands back into producing. He could use some of those elves. There was also the Black town house in London. It was in disrepair, and a few elves would have it back into splendour in no time. Severus agreed to have house-elves see to Prince Manor.

As to Grimmauld Place number twelve? He would think about it. There was no doubt that it needed as many elves as possible, but he was not sure if he wanted them to serve the Order members. In the meantime, he spoke with Hersy, Elfwoods -the farm’s name- Head House-Elf. He had him send four extra elves to Spinner’s End to assist Lippe with a deep cleaning of the house. It urgently needed it. Hersy was to assess how many would be required for Prince Manor and its grounds.

​The last thing Cleaveraxe wanted Severus to decide about was what to do with the anonymous payments Harry Potter made to the Weasley vault. They started before the end of his first year. The amount was to pay the children tuition and supplies. The vault key was used to confirm each letter requesting the deposit. There were also many requests for galleons delivered to either Ronald, or Ginevra Weasley. A look at Danielle’s betrayed expression told Severus she did not make any of those withdrawals. It was also clear that the adult Weasley were not to know who their secret benefactor was.

​Severus checked the letters. Nearly five years of correcting atrocious essays and tests were enough to confirm Ronald Weasley was the one writing the letters and requesting the money. This year’s tuition was not paid yet, although the letter arrived earlier that day. After some thought and some private words with Danielle Severus ordered Cleaveraxe not to make the deposit just yet. She was very hurt by Weasley’s and the Weaselette’s betrayal, but she cared about the other members of the family. It was clear that they did not have enough to send their kids to Hogwarts. Severus was to speak with the adults and decide if he should allow the payments to continue. Only the twins though, those two were brilliant, and really had potential for more than being just pranksters. That type of theft was grounds for expulsion, and the two youngest were probably not going to remain at the school.

​The new father and daughter left Gringotts in silence, and a thoughtful and sombre mood. Neither felt like shopping but Harry did need a nightgown or pyjamas at the very least, as well as undergarments. Severus headed to Madam Malkin’s. The old witch had a clothes line besides making robes, which Danielle also needed. The witch was quite helpful once Danielle let it be known she hated pink and bright yellow, as well as frilly, girly things.

Madam Malkin had a nice full wardrobe selected. There were mostly trousers, jeans, and shorts. But she had managed to convince the girl to get some dresses and skirts. However did the older witch manage that? He was convinced that Potter, now Danielle, would be a tomboy. Severus actually expected that since it would take time to make a lady out of the once fifteen year old teenage boy. If he ever could. There were blouses, t-shirts, tank tops, jerseys, jumpers, robes, cloaks, sleeping attire, and the appropriate undergarments.

Neither Severus nor Danielle knew about fashion, but both found the selections to their liking. They would be fitted, and allow for up to two sizes in growth. They made her look pretty as well. They would be able to take home five changes of clothes, the sleep wear and the undergarments. The rest would be delivered by the end of the week. Even Severus ended with some new better quality clothes. Most of which were not black.

​It was at the cobblers that the school owl finally caught up with him; about time as well. He did not understand why Albus took so long to contact the Order. Harry’s audience had been at eight, originally at nine. It was nearly seven in the evening! The summons did pose a problem. What should he do about Danielle? He could not leave her alone. She was mentally fifteen, so technically she was well able to stay home alone for a few hours. But it had been one hell of a stressful day for her. Too much, in too short a time. It was not wise to leave her on her own for too long.

​Harry Potter had been able to see Grimmauld Place number twelve, but Danielle should not. He needed Albus to tell her the Secret to avoid suspicion. The old coot also needed to know about his six year old daughter, so he might as well go ahead and request the Secret. He cast his Patronus and was shocked to notice it was no longer a doe, like Lily’s had been. It was a dragon. Both female and male Hungarian Horntails were excellent parents, and fierce protectors of their young. This more than anything brought home all the changes of the past hours. Harry was Danielle now, and she was his child. He would protect her no matter what. The Patronus left with his message to the Headmaster.

​Dumbledore’s response was prompt. He would wait for him outside Grimmauld Place number twelve. The old coot sounded surprised, and Severus was sure he would have many questions about Danielle. After paying for the girl’s new shoes, he headed to the Disapparition Point. He carried Danielle on his hip, and she held him loosely by the neck with her legs wrapped around his waist. It had been awkward initially, but they had loosened up a bit. It now felt natural. She relaxed, and laid her head on his shoulder, tired from the excursion. She really should have been in bed.

​Albus was indeed waiting for them outside the old house, but so were Kingsley and Amelia. Severus had not expected her to be there, but something important must have come up. There were short friendly greetings that had the old coot clearly puzzled. It was not something he had expected. Severus took a bit of pity on the old wizard, and informed him the Aurors were his child’s Godparents. Albus’ eyebrows nearly got lost his hair in surprise, but he said nothing. The Potions Master knew he would be invited for tea later. The Headmaster’s ‘subtle’ way of questioning people.

Hidden as Snape’s Daughter by carvell

Summary: Dumbledore never makes it to Harry’s trial (summer of 5th year) and Harry is sentenced to Azkaban to be kissed. Snape rescues him and Harry is hidden in plain sight, as Snape’s daughter; he ends up in Slytherin. Only Snape knows who he really is, the rest of the world thinks he’s dead from the Dementor’s kiss. No romance whatsoever.

Author’s Note: I’m basing this story on the challenge, although I’m not following it completely. Harry will be much younger. I wanted to try my luck at adding two other characters that are usually minor and last but not least there will eventually be some romance, although not for a while, and not for Harry. She is too young for that.

This story is just in the beginning stages, so I only have about three chapters captured in the computer, plus a whole lot of notes and ideas.

Chapter 05

​By three the Aurors were back. They accomplished all they required for the plan to work. Severus had the potions ready, and surprisingly the Order had yet to be summoned to Headquarters. Surely Arthur would have already informed them something went wrong at the Ministry. The professor was not pleased, and neither was Shacklebolt. It only lowered more their opinion of the the Order and their members.

​The Deaging Potion would take nine years off of Potter. Danielle’s birthday was on July 27th, so she had just turned six. The potion would allow Potter to retain his memories, knowledge, and magical levels, yet allow for more magical growth; hence why it was illegal. Emotionally though he, she, would be a six year old going on fifteen at times. Never mind the trauma the abuse and betrayal by Black caused. Severus would have a VERY damaged kid in his hands.

They debated on Obliviating the child, but neither thought it a real option. A confused six year old Potter was a liability. He could endanger the plan by revealing his name. The young Gryffindor woke up with a terrified shriek that had all three rushing upstairs. The found him backed up against a corner looking out of his mind with fear and despair.

Severus sighed at seeing the boy. He hated seeing such a brave child like that. “Hush Potter,” he said in a soothing tone. “Hush,” he repeated it several times in a soft reassuring tone to quiet the terrified whimpers. “You are safe. No one is going to hurt you. I give you my word. You are safe.”

It took several tries before Harry’s mind finally cleared enough to understand the words, and identify the voice. Although he never heard that particular tone coming from Snape before. “Prof … Professor S … Snape? Dementors?” His voice sounded so small and scared.

“Yes Potter, it is I,” he said gently. “As to those fiends, there are none here.” He reassured the Gryffindor; his tone soothing. “You are safe.”

“Co … co … col … cold.” He was shivering.

“That is an after effect of being exposed to Dementors. Come.” He offered his hand. “Some hot chocolate and a warm blanket will take care of the cold.” The boy surprisingly took his hand, and allowed his help to go back to bed. Amelia settled Potter propped on pillows, and covered by a thick warmed blanket. Kingsley heated the hot chocolate, and added half a vial of Calming Draught.

Harry drank half the mug before he felt more himself. The chocolate had helped, and he suspected there had been a Calming Draught in there as well. He took in his surroundings and did not think he was at Headquarters. “Where am I? And what … what happened? The … the Dementors were going to Kiss me.” He shivered despite the Calming Draught.

“This is my house,” Severus responded. Spinner’s End had never been home to him, and still was not.

“You were indeed sentenced to a Kiss,” Kingsley confirmed.

“The audience was a farce. What happened today is not how it is supposed to work,” Amelia began explaining. “We do not know for certain Fudge’s reasons to want you out of the way. Be assured that we will find out. Unfortunately, in his seal, Fudge used a Ministerial Edict. We can’t do anything about it, even with evidence that you cast in self-defence, and to protect a muggle. Ministerial Edicts cannot be revoked until at least twenty years have passed, and he made this one in such a way that not even then could it be.”

“But … what am I going to do?” He was scared. Would he be Kissed? Was he going to be confined to Headquarters like … like … HIM? Harry shivered. He would not last long if that happened. HE would either kill him, or Harry would do it himself.

“Legally nothing can be done, and even illegally there are not many options. Ministerial Edicts are backed by magic,” Kingsley stated gravelly. “Still, we were not going to let you be Kissed Harry. What we did was ‘kill’ Harry James Potter.”

“Kill me? Why?”

“Because of the Edict; the magic will enforce it. That is the reason why we ‘killed’ you so to speak. Everyone will think a Dementor did Kiss you, and you drowned in the waters before the island of Azkaban. We were attacked by rogue Dementors. While it was a terrible situation, since we lost two prison guards, it also worked in our favour. No one but the four of us know you are alive. It is as much for your protection, as it its ours, since we are breaking the law,” Kingsley explained.

Harry stared at them surprised. They were all risking Azkaban to keep him alive. It was … shocking, no one had ever been that interested in his survival. Sure, they SAID they cared about what happened to him, but that was not the truth. These days at Headquarters taught him that. “Why didn’t the Order help you?”

Severus snorted. “Do you really trust those imbeciles to rescue you, or anyone else, Potter?”

“No,” he admitted. “Not anymore. They never have … I’ve had to rescue myself most of the times … you did back in first year though professor.”

“We do not trust them with your safety either Mister Potter,” Amelia stated gently. “It became clear to us that you require as much protection from them, as you need from You-Know-Who, his Death Eaters, and Cornelius Fudge.”

Harry digested what she said, and then his eyes went wide with horror. They knew his ‘secret’. “No! No you can’t know! No one was supposed to know how weak I am!” He would have been panicking if it was not for the Calming Draught in his system.

“You are not weak Harry,” Severus stated firmly. The boy clearly did not believe his words. It would probably take a lot of work and a few years to get him to believe it. It did for him. Even now Severus still doubted himself occasionally. “You are in fact very strong.”

“How can you say that? I couldn’t stop them, I couldn’t protect myself! Some bloody hero I am!” He snapped at his potion’s professor.

“You were a child Harry. You still are even at fifteen. It is NOT your fault, but theirs. They were responsible for you. They had to protect you, take care of you, and love you. Instead, they are monsters that hurt a child in their care! Those people are the ones at fault, not you. NEVER you! YOU did NOTHING to deserve what they did!” He stressed trying to make a point. “But you survived Harry. You are still going on when others would have given up, or would have become delinquents. You have principles; that makes you strong; the strongest child that I have known.”

Harry stared at Snape. He never expected to hear anything like that from anyone, much less his git of a potions professor. “So … what now?” He changed the subject, not sure how to respond to Snape’s words. “What’s going to happen to me?”

“You need a new identity, one that cannot link you to who you were. As it is, we do not know how much time we have before the magic enforces the Edict,” Severus responded.

“Who … who can I be? How …” He was beginning to panic.

“Hush Potter and listen. It is no secret your father and I hated each other. What very few remember is that your mother, Lily, and I were best friends since we were seven.” The boy was about to interrupt, so he raised a hand to stop him. “Listen, you can ask questions later. The Evans did not live far from here,” He paused then went on. “Our friendship did not survive past out fifth year, but Lily will always be very dear to me. She is both, the reason why I became a Death Eater, and why I turned against them. The night she was murdered I made an Unbreakable Vow to protect you for her. I can see now I failed, as you have not been safe.” He paused again. Speaking of personal things was not easy for him.

“So that”s why Dumbledore trusts you?” Harry asked wide eyed. He would need to think about that once he had some alone time. It was hard to believe he had a protector, and yet he did remember Snape had saved him a few times.

“Among other things,” he confirmed. “As the Keeper of the Vow, the Headmaster assured me my protection was not necessary while you were living with Petunia. I was informed you were extremely well cared for,” the boy snorted, “and safe behind Blood Wards,” He paused. “Four months ago I discovered the Wards were non-existent. You need to live with a blood relative from your mother’s side for the Blood Wards to activate. Fortunately, or not, Petunia is not related to the Evans at all. I ignore the reason …”

“She’s not Mum’s sister?” Harry stared wide eyed at the revelation.

“No. Lily did have an older sister, a half-sister, but it is not Petunia. Elizabeth Morrison was her name, and she was ten years older than Lily. She was the product of your grandfather’s indiscretion when he was fifteen years old. I knew her. She was a wild teenager, and remained wild as an adult. Elizabeth abused drugs, but she bore me a daughter; the results of my own indiscretion.” The boy gaped, and Severus frowned. Why was it so hard to believe that he was not a monk?

“I have a cousin?” Harry interrupted.

Severus chose not to respond yet. “I found out four months ago. My daughter was five at the time. Knowing you required Blood Wards I investigated Elizabeth. She was abusive. It was not the best place for Danielle, or you for that matter. So I went through muggle channels to get Danielle away from her, but it was too late. My daughter was … murdered by Elizabeth’s muggle boyfriend, and she later killed herself.”

“I’m sorry Sir,” he said. The pain in the usually stoic wizard affected him more than he thought posible.

“As I am Potter.“ Severus admitted. ” I … I did not get to know my child well enough. It is for that reason that I can offer you to take her place. You will be well cared for Potter. I will not abuse you, and you will have a second chance at childhood. The best that I can provide for you.”

“As a five year old girl?! Are you crazy?!” The professor’s story was touching, and learning that he had had more family and lost it was a disappointment. But he was male, he … he was not a fag, nor was he inclined to girly things. His ego refused to consider it. He did not want to be a girl!

“No, I am not. Danielle turned six only four days before you turned fifteen by the way.”

“We know it’s not ideal Mister Potter …” Amelia began.

“Damn right it’s not!” He muttered rebelliously.

“But you and your half cousin have a lot in common,” she went on ignoring his comment.

“I’m not abused!” He protested defensively. Even though they already knew about the Dursleys.

“We know everything Mister Potter,” Kingsley informed him in a gentle voice. This would be hard on the boy. “In order to stall as much as we could, I cast several Diagnostic Scans, a spell known as Abusus Historia, and obtained many incriminating memories in order to bring those who hurt you to justice. Believe me, Sirius Black will be the one Kissed.”

Harry stared in shock. They knew? “No! No, no, no! No one was supposed to know! No one was to know what a weak freak I am!” He was pulling his hair and hyperventilating despite the Calming Draught.

Severus sat on the bed and grabbed the boy’s hands. “Breathe Harry, come boy, take deep breaths.” It took a couple of repetitions to get through to the Gryffindor, but he obeyed. “You are NOT a freak! You are NOT weak! It is NOT your fault! Black is the monster, the freak, not you. Never you! He was supposed to protect you, take care of you, not take advantage of your love and trust.” He spoke vehemently. Severus could understand how the boy felt.

​Potter stared at Severus with tearful eyes; then he broke down crying. No one had told him it was not his fault, that he was not a freak. Yet it was Snape, the man he believed hated him, who told him. He was also the first one to actually offer comfort, to hold him as he cried his heart out. The Potions Master hummed a soft soothing tune, in between telling him that it was alright to cry, that he should let go, and let everything out; and Harry did. He spilled years of pain, and loneliness.

The awkwardness, and fear, he initially felt at being held by Snape -a wizard- slowly went away. Instead he began feeling safe, protected. It … it was nice. Was that what it felt to have a parent? Was that how Snape would be as his parent? It was the professor’s actions that convinced him to accept the enormous change they proposed. He dreamed of a parent, and he was finally going to have one. He would also have two Godparents who swore they would never treat him like Sirius had, and he believed it. They all were risking Azkaban to save is soul. Being a girl was not ideal, but he would manage, he always did.

Hidden as Snape’s Daughter by carvell

Summary: Dumbledore never makes it to Harry’s trial (summer of 5th year) and Harry is sentenced to Azkaban to be kissed. Snape rescues him and Harry is hidden in plain sight, as Snape’s daughter; he ends up in Slytherin. Only Snape knows who he really is, the rest of the world thinks he’s dead from the Dementor’s kiss. No romance whatsoever.

Author’s Note: I’m basing this story on the challenge, although I’m not following it completely. Harry will be much younger. I wanted to try my luck at adding two other characters that are usually minor and last but not least there will eventually be some romance, although not for a while, and not for Harry. She is too young for that.

This story is just in the beginning stages, so I only have about three chapters captured in the computer, plus a whole lot of notes and ideas.

Chapter 04.

​The Portkey took them straight into his second bedroom. Spinner’s End only had two. It was really a very small row house, but he did not need anything larger. Not even when there was the prospect of having Danielle with him. The childish and feminine room clearly surprised both Aurors, but none questioned him. Although he suspected they might ask later. At the moment, it was more important to see to Potter. He got the necessary potions, and went over his and Shacklebolt’s results. Truth be told, Lily’s child was a mess, and suffering from the stress of the situation he had been living in.

​Bones managed to de-activate the Glamour and they could not help the exclamations of shock. She was a hardened Auror, and yet, the witch could not contain the tears. Shacklebolt’s and his own eyes filled with tears as well. Severus could barely contain his rage. Albus said Potter was well cared for! He assured him the boy was safe with Petunia! His Vow was fulfilled as long as he watched out for the Gryffindor at Hogwarts. He was to keep him safe from the Dark Lord, and his Death Eaters. But his Vow was not specific. It was protection against all dangers, and seeing the battered, scarred, and tiny teenager, he realized that Albus was as much of a threat -or perhaps even more so- than the Dark Lord ever was.

He failed Lily.

“Do you have a camera Snape?” Kingsley’s voice was hoarse with barely controlled emotions. They would pay. Those that hurt the child would pay, even if he had to take the law into his own hands.

“Yes. You will press charges against those beasts.” It was a statement, not a question. He silently Summoned the camera. Bones did a bit of transfiguration so the room looked like the Ministry cell where they kept the boy earlier.

“They will not get away with this,” Amelia assured him.

​Shacklebolt took the pictures, then Severus went to work healing the boy to the best of his abilities. He was not a certified Healer, but he had trained under Poppy’s guidance. He was good enough to act as the Order’s Healer. Severus worked methodically until he had done all he could. The boy would sleep for at least a couple of hours. He was no longer deeply unconscious; hopefully, his mind had not suffered from being exposed to the Dementors for over two hours. He had too many traumatic memories according to Shacklebolt.

They let the boy rest, and Severus guided them downstairs for tea as well as explanations. One of his elves brought the tea, plus biscuits, and finger sandwiches. There was also chocolate. The Aurors recounted what happened at the trial, what was done to stall the trip to Azkaban, and the discovery of the abuse Potter had been subjected to. The boy had never been safe while under Dumbledore’s watch. Kingsley also told him of the reason he was called.

Severus said nothing, as he heard the story, and his face was impassive. Inside he was in turmoil. The old coot lied to him! Albus always told him Potter was well cared for with Petunia, as well as safe; but the Abusus Historia proved that was the furthest from the truth. His approach was to watch Lily’s son from afar, so he did not have more contact with James Potter’s spawn than was necessary.

​His strategy to keep Lily’s son safe had clearly not worked. True, he kept him relatively safe at Hogwarts, but he had done nothing to protect Potter from the enemy within. An enemy he did not even know existed. No, that was not entirely true. He knew Dumbledore had designs for the boy; but it never occurred to him the old coot would be so callous as to allow the child to be harmed in such a heinous way. Unfortunately, it was Potter who paid the price of his naivete. Severus could no longer afford to keep the Gryffindor at arm’s length. He could see it did not work.

​The Professor realized he now needed the child’s trust, but he had worked so hard to alienate Potter that it was a dubious endeavour. Yet, it was something he needed to achieve if he was to do a better job of protecting Lily’s child. Severus concluded he needed to keep Potter close in order to better protect him. The best option would be to become the boy’s guardian.

There was a ‘slight’ problem though. They could not have another teenager the same age appear out of the blue. Not when Harry James Potter had just ‘died’. Besides, how could he easily explain being the guardian of such a boy? Few knew about his private life, in fact, not even Albus knew much. But having a ‘child’ Potter’s age ‘suddenly’ appear from nowhere, and pass him as … his son … his nephew … his cousin … or his charge? Where would the boy have come from? Where did he study? It was simply too suspicious. They needed another way.

​Severus’ eyes roamed the tiny room so full of his beloved books. They stopped for a moment on the sofa, where the Aurors were sitting quite close. Closer than a simple work relationship suggested, although both looked deep in thought; probably planning. His eyes moved away from them, and stopped at a recent photo. Two weeks ago he took Danielle to the beach. She wanted to see it first hand, and truth be told, it had been at least twenty years since he had been there for leasure. He had only vacationed at the beach once, when the Evans invited him to spend a week with them, and he had never returned to that particular beach. He had been to others, to collect potions ingredients, but it was not the same.

​At the time, Lily and him had fun. It had been probably one of the few times he had actually been completely carefree as a child; and although both ended red as lobsters, neither had any real complaints. He knew, even then, that the experience might never be repeated, so he made the most of it. Severus could not deny Danielle her wish, and so they spent the weekend at the beach.

She loved it.

​They swam, sunned, ate sea food, and even played. He had Charmed the camera invisible, as well as to follow them. The photo on the shelf was of them building a sand castle, and he barely recognized himself. He was smiling; he looked happy, relaxed, and … content. Severus did not remember when was the last time he felt like that before the lovely weekend.

Had he ever?

​His chance at being a father was gone, and Danielle showed him it was something he wanted. It was not that he could not. He was in his prime, and everything worked fine. It was more that he could not risk bringing another child to a world that would be at war; and yet … he had looked forward to raising her. He never thought he would want to be a parent, but in the short time he had with Danielle he enjoyed it.

​Severus closed his eyes in pain. His little girl had a very hard life, and died a violent death. He wanted to believe he made her happy, if only for a short while. Danielle’s young life was not very different from Potter’s. Both of them were even related; half-cousins. He told Danielle about Potter, and she had been so happy that she had more family. His little girl wanted to meet her cousin, and he knew that if the boy had known, he would have liked to meet her.

​Danielle died two nights ago. Her death was recent enough as to allow him to modify some memories and files. He had documents and photos to back up her existence. The constables could ‘remember’ she was only injured. Turning Potter into Danielle would not be too hard for a Potions Master of his caliber. Although Potter would not be a look alike. A Re-Grow De-aging Potion, a Gender Bender Perma-Draught, and a Blood Adoption Potion would do the trick, with a couple of spells to make the first two untraceable. The third already was.

​Severus even had the last two in stock. Both had very long shelf lives, and one cauldron produced around five doses. St. Mungos had commissioned the Gender Bender Perma-Draught a few years back for a transgender wizard. The Wizarding Children Welfare Department requested the Blood Adoption Potion last summer. As to the De-aging Potion, it was illegal, but not hard to make. He already had the base -which was a generic one. It would take him around forty minutes to have a dose capable of de-aging the boy nine years. Severus’ mind came to an abrupt halt. Was he really considering adopting Potter and raising him as a girl? Could he do it? They were not on the best of terms.

​The answer surprised him. Yes, he would take Lily’s child as his own. That child urgently needed proper care, a parental figure, someone who had his best interests at heart, and protection amongst other things. Being de-aged would provide him with a second chance at being a child. Something the Headmaster’s so called protections had robbed him off. Severus would make sure he … she was happy. Potter was not going to like becoming a girl, but really, it was the best option available before the Edict’s magic took action.

​The Potions Master told both Aurors about Danielle and Elizabeth. He accepted their condolences. Then he spoke of his plan to pass Potter as his daughter, as well as all that was necessary to implement the plan. Amelia and Kingsley were thoughtful as they considered the proposed actions. After a long silence both agreed it was a good idea, and the only viable option either of them had come up with. None wanted to risk too much time passing, as they were unsure how long the Ministerial Edict would wait before enacting it’s orders.

​All three were aware Potter -a fifteen year old boy- would not be happy about becoming a little girl, especially when the Gender Change was permanent. Most teenage boys would be horrified actually. The trio debated whether to do it without explaining, or telling him first to give him a semblance of a ‘choice’; although there really was not one. The consensus was to speak to Potter first. They needed his trust, and for him to see they respected him. That he had ‘some’ control.

​Amelia wanted something else added to the plan. There was a war coming, and Severus’ role as a spy placed him in a dangerous position. Should something happen to him, Potter would be vulnerable, and at the Ministry’s mercy. She and Kingsley would become the child’s godparents. That also served to provide Potter with family as Severus had none living.

It was Kingsley who came up with the idea to fabricate a case investigating several instances of powerful Accidental Magic before muggles. He would be the Auror in charge. It was something he did often with abused muggle born children. He also assisted the muggle authorities in cases of abuse when the child had to be removed from parents or tutors. It provided an excuse for Severus and Kingsley to know each other before the Order.

​With a budding friendship, and later knowledge of being on the same side it would be believable that Severus asked Kingsley to be his child’s godfather. Amelia, as King’s lover, was invited by extension, and slowly included in the friendship. She had expected scorn from Snape, or a sneer at the revelation of their frowned upon relationship. She got neither. He only asked how serious they were.

Kingsley responded they would already be Bonded if they could. But the bigots at the Births, Bonds, Marriages, and Deaths Department would not do it. Severus suggested they married in the muggle world. He could be one of the witnesses for them. With the document the Births, Bonds, Marriages, and Deaths Department HAD to legalize their union like it or not. Some of his Slytherins had done things that way. A couple had married muggles. The Aurors were happy with the advice, and would set a date once things calmed a bit around Potter’s case.

​Amelia and Kingsley left then to take care of the muggle authorities and any witness who knew Danielle died. They also collected hair and nail clippings from Elizabeth’s body. Blood would have been better, but it had to be fresh, from a ‘live’ source. So other materials in larger amounts would have to do. They also collected the little girl’s body, and what she had on when she was attacked. Severus decided he would cremate her body and bury the ashes in his mother’s tomb. It was at the cemetery in Hogsmeade, inside the Prince Family crypt; although Eileen hadn’t originally been buried there. He moved her when Jeremiah became comatose.

Summary: Defeating Voldemort did not solve all the Wizarding World’s problem. If anything things got worse, so much worse. Once again it’s up to Harry to solve them, and perhaps save some people whlle doing it.

Author’s Note: This is one Story Bunny that has not left me in peace. Once again the Time Travel subject is present, as it has been in a really large number of Story Bunnies I’ve written lately.

I really like the subject of this fic. It came out in a rather surprising block of text, unlike most of the others in which I re-write (when I handwrite a story) every 2 to 5 pages until it’s the way I want it.

The Story Bunny still needs a lot of work. At the moment I’m trying to organize it, and set an ordely time line. Ideas kept popping as I wrote, so everything is scathered about, and more like a telegram than a full fledged story. It also needs more dialogues in the past part of the story. There’s just all prose and no action in the beginning. Although I believe it’s important to explain what led to the Time Travelling.

Anyway, this is just a taste. The author’s note is probably half the length of the whole Prologue.

Prologue

Spinner’s End street was completely abandoned now. Well, the last block of it was. She could feel the potent Wards in the area. The Muggle Repelling one was particularly strong, and responsible for leaving the block abandoned when other areas of the working town still clung to life. She shook her head, leave it to Snape to push even harmless strangers away. Well, he was not getting rid of her so easily. As she walked towards his house, Rhiannon did have to wonder how the muggle bar maid that gave birth to Snape’s daughter managed to get past the powerful Wards. The muggle woman actually reached the last house on Spinner’s End, only to abandon the new born baby on the doorstep. The irresponsible woman did that even when she knew her occasional lover had yet to arrive from the boarding school he taught at.

Snape was a very powerful wizard, as well as an incredibly intelligent man; any child he sired had the potential for great things. The little girl would have been an amazing witch, had she lived. She would have also been Snape’s salvation. But the baby died of dehydration, hunger, and exposure. The professor did not arrive until a week after the woman left the child outside the door. He found her as he returned from nerve wracking days of getting back into the Dark Lord’s good graces. The tiny infant was powerful, and her magic tried to sustain her as long as possible; but when he arrived to the house she was dying. There was nothing he could do except clean her up, make her comfortable, and hold her as she finally expired in her father’s arms.

Discovering he fathered a child was something he had not expected. As a Potions Master Severus he knew seveal ways to avoid siring children, and that they sometimes failed. Still, he took precautions as he was not a monk, and he did seek female company now and then. None of his liasons were serious though. A man in his possition did not have the luxury of getting into a serious relationship, much less bring a child to the world. Yet, that was precisely something he yearned deep down. A family of his own, a woman by his side. He lost hope of it when Lily Evans died, but the yearning remained in the back of his mind and heart.

Finding his child, a better part of him, abandoned like week old trash broke him. It simply confirmed what his father -and so many others- had always told him. That he was worthless, that no matter how hard he tried to atone, to be a better man, there really was nothing worth saving in him. Not even his innocent offspring. What little will to live remained died then, along with his tiny daughter. Only the Unbreakable Vow he made to Dumbledore after Lily’s death kept him going. He would keep her child alive, even when he was unable to save his own.

Severus would have kept the baby, and so many things would have changed had she lived. For starters, he would have NEVER made that Unbreakable Vow to Narcissa Malfoy. He would have had his own child to take care of. A child that needed him alive. Narcissa would not have been happy, but she would have understood that he loved his daughter as much as she loved her son, and would not do anything that could take him away from her if at all possible. The little girl would have been only two years old then.

Rhiannon would not allow the baby to die this time.

Not when she could save her, and in doing so she gave hope -and the possiblity of knowing unconditional love- to her father. He deserved it. Snape had saved her life time and again back when she had still been a boy named Harry James Potter. The son of the love of his life. But she was not the only one that had a debt to pay to Snape. The whole Wizarding World owed the Potions Master their freedom from the threat Voldemort and his Death Eaters had been.

Severus Tobias Snape died before Voldemort was finally defeated. He never got to see the end of the war, and that his sacrifices were not in vain. He did not know the son of his beloved Lily survived. He was a hero to Harry, and the Wizarding World. Yet it had been so hard to even get him a decent burial, much less clear his name. Few wanted to accept the cantakerous wizard had been on their side.

It was hard, very hard, but Harry managed both. It was him who took care of the funeral rites, and who pestered everyone and their uncle in the Ministry to clear the youngest Headmaster Hogwarts ever had name. The Potions Master was the bravest man Harry had ever met. Snape sacrificed so much, so many years of his life -as well any chance of happiness- to keep the Vows he made to an old man in Lily Evans-Potter’s name.

Without Severus Snape the second war against Voldemort would have been lost.

This is now going, no longer a tentative story. I have ten chapters ready for posting, and I’m working on chapter eleven at the moment. I might begin posting in fanfiction.net, potionsandsnitches.net, and the general  category of HP Fandom during the week.

Now, while I place a pairing of Hermione/Severus, there won’t be much romance going. At least not until she is 18. You’ll have to read to see what I mean.

I’m also dealing with subjects that are difficutl to mention, but I don’t think I will be explicit. If I do it will only be posted here and probably HP Fandom.

Chapter 03

​Severus had not delayed too much. Yet, when he Apparated close to the pier, he came to a nightmarish scene. Twelve Dementors went rogue! The four guards, and three Aurors, were hard pressed to keep them at bay. His Patronus -a doe like Lily’s had been- joined the defence as he approached the group. A Dementor got hold of Potter. The boy was catatonic; in his condition, and without a wand, he was not able to defend himself. It was a shame, as the boy’s Patronus had been able to fend off a hundred Dementors when the boy was only thirteen. Twelve would have been nothing.

​The fiend holding Potter Kissed the scar first. The boy screamed. Then a voice Severus recognized as the Dark Lord’s joined the screaming. There was clearly a terrible struggle. He could feel it in his Dark Mark. No one really made any noise while being Kissed by Dementors. It was also a very fast process, yet it seemed an eternity passed while the screaming went on. Potter was convulsing as well. Two of the guards lost their concentration at the gruesome sight. Their Patroni faded, and Dementors seized them. Both lost their souls.

​Severus strengthened his resolve, and his doe chased away Potter’s Dementor. It had not Kissed the boy’s mouth, so he was sure Lily’s son still had his soul. He reached the boy and stood guard over him until the fiends tired and left. The Potions Master shuddered. Twelve Dementors were loose; that was cause for alarm. Muggles had no protection, and even wizard folk were in danger; so few could cast Patroni.

Someone had to raise the alarm, and have Aurors dispatched to capture them before they reached the Dark Lord; before others also decided to leave Azkaban as well. He knelt beside Potter, and began casting Diagnostic Spells. Shacklebolt approached him as Bones and the other Auror Stunned the guards.

“It’s too late Snape,” Kingsley said gravely.

“No, it is not. The boy was not de-souled.” He frowned. His scans told him Potter was battered and nearly emaciated, but he did not look it.

“But I saw …”

“The Dementor Kissed Potter’s scar,” Amelia said puzzled. “I’ve never heard of one doing that … or a scar screaming.”

“That was the Dark Lord’s voice. Dumbledore mentioned the boy shared some type of connection with Him …” he trailed off. The scar was not something to be discussed there. Perhaps later he could puzzle what happened. He changed the subject to the boy’s condition. “Someone beat him, but there are no signs of it.”

“A Glamour would have faded when he lost consciousness,” Auror Flaherty pointed out.

“Umm … a Rune based one would not,” Kingsley said thoughtfully.

“Potter does not take Ancient Runes, and Granger -the trio’s brain- dropped it after her third year,” Severus informed them.

“Finite,” Amelia waved her wand above the boy’s prone figure. There was a bracelet covered with Runes.

“I will be damned!” Severus was surprised. Shacklebolt was right. “We cannot stay here. I will take Potter to Headquarters.”

“Don’t,” Kingsley said. Snape raised an eyebrow. He proceeded then to explain what they discovered. The Slytherin clearly did not want to believe it, so he gave him copies of his scans, the memories, and the Abusus Historia.

Severus paled. That was the thickest roll of parchment produced by an Abusus Historia that he had seen; and he had dealt with some gruesome abuse cases. “It has to be wrong Shacklebolt! The Headmaster would not have allowed it. Potter is … he is his Golden Boy!”

“I believe he knew Snape, and still allowed it for some reason. The boy tried to tell him a few times, but Dumbledore would not even let him speak. Hell, there were guards outside his house since the boy arrived from Hogwarts for the summer! No one stopped the uncle, or reported the boy was being abused. Molly Weasley would have killed Black if she caught him brutally kissing one of her own, and Lupin …” he spat the name. “He was supposed to be safe there! The Order’s purpose was not only to fight You-Know-Who, but to protect the boy!”

Severus sighed. Shacklebolt had a point. “I will take him to my house. No one except Dumbledore knows where I live, and the Headmaster does not visit.”

“That sounds good,” Amelia agreed. “Before you go, we need to have a semblance of a plan at least. Harry Potter cannot go back. The Ministerial Edict will have him Kissed or killed on sight, and it could happen now, or in twenty years.”

“I saw him Kissed,” Flaherty told them. “You did as well, didn’t you Kingsley?”

“Yes, the angle I was at gave that impression,” He confirmed.

“You would have no body. How can you explain that?” Severus pointed out.

“These waters are treacherous. I believe there are some carnivorous sea creatures around, although no one has seen anything. Someone falls into the water, and it’s nearly a given that the body would never be recovered. The Dementor threw the body into the water. It drowned, and we could not recover it,” Flaherty told them. He had often been on escort duty to prisoners going to Azkaban and had seen that happen.

“That’s …” Kingsley began.

“Inspired,” Severus said at the same time that Amelia added her own words.

“Perfect.”

​They had enough to create a basic plan of action. Harry Potter had to die in order to keep him safe from the Ministry. They would need to create a new identity for him. That, they could deal with once they were at Spinner’s End. The Aurors suggested the of use a Time Turner to settle whatever was necessary. It so happened that Amelia had one at her disposal as the Head of the Magical Law Enforcement Department.

​It was decided that Amelia and Kingsley would accompany the Potions Master. All three of them were Occlumens and would have no trouble keeping the secret. Flaherty was not, and he agreed to be Obliviated. They had not taken the risk of going against a Ministerial Edict for him to put all of them at risk. Specially Potter. The boy did not deserve to be Kissed.

Flaherty would keep guard and wait for them to return. The group left via Portkey, and five minutes later Madam Bones, and Kingsley Apparated back. They erased Snape’s presence from the guard’s minds. His boss assured the Auror Potter was safe, and already had a new identity. He allowed them to Obliviate him then.

Summary: Dumbledore never makes it to Harry’s trial (summer of 5th year) and Harry is sentenced to Azkaban to be kissed. Snape rescues him and Harry is hidden in plain sight, as Snape’s daughter; he ends up in Slytherin. Only Snape knows who he really is, the rest of the world thinks he’s dead from the Dementor’s kiss. No romance whatsoever.

Author’s Note: I’m basing this story on the challenge, although I’m not following it completely. Harry will be much younger. I wanted to try my luck at adding two other characters that are usually minor, and last but not least there will eventually be some romance, although not for a while, and not for Harry. She is too young for that.

I’m afraid that contrary to my usual way of writing this story’s chapters are short. No matter what I did, they simply refused to be longer. At least the 10 I already have, hopefully it might change but I make no promises. I do not have a beta, but hopefully I did catch most errors. If you find any please leave a comment and I’ll correct it ASAP.

Chapter 02

​It was not year nine thirty in the morning, but Severus could not care any less as he sipped his scotch. He was not drunk, and much as he wanted to drink himself into oblivion, he would not. The constables were supposed to drop by later -as he did not own a telephone- to inform him when he could pick his small daughter’s body, and make funeral arrangements. Elizabeth’s -the child’s mother- would be released much later. Danielle Henriette Morrison had been the child’s name; such a big name for a dainty six year old.

​Danielle had been a surprisingly pretty little girl. What, with him being so ugly, and her mother not a beauty either, she had a high probability of being quite ugly as well. Thankfully she had been spared. His daughter managed to get the best of both her parents’ looks, plus her grandfather’s amazing emerald green eyes. Douglas Evans -Lily’s father. Danielle got Lily’s and her son’s eyes.

​His daughter was the result of one of those nights when loneliness, and stress got to be too much, and he left Hogwarts to find female company to release some of it. His heart belonged to Lily Evans, even after her death, but he was no monk. He never sought a relationship with those women -all muggle- that occasionally shared his bed. Normally he would go to London, Edinburgh, or Manchester, but for some reason that time he went to his home town, Stockport.

​It was at the ‘Hound and the Boar’, the local pub, that he meant someone from his childhood; Elizabeth Morrison. She was nearly ten years older than him, but he knew her because of Lily. Elizabeth was Douglas Evans eldest child. He had been barely fifteen when he left his then girlfriend pregnant, and had been sent away to a boarding school. Douglas did not give the girl his name, although once he returned he tried to make it up to her. Not that it worked, Elizabeth had been wild and rebellious as a teenager.

​Even many years later, she was still wild and into drugs. She lived in London, and she was back in town only to settle her mother’s house and belongings. Bertha Morrison had passed away about a month prior to that night. It had been a rather wild weekend for Severus, but he had enjoyed it. That was the last time he saw Lily’s half sister before he learned of his daughter’s existence. Elizabeth never told him she was pregnant, and with the way she was, she probably did not know who the father was.

​Severus only found out four months ago, when Jeremiah Prince -his maternal grandfather- finally died after being in a coma for three years. Jeremiah left what remained of the Prince State to him. There was not much money wise, but the old Prince manor was still standing, and their amazing library was intact. There were also five house-elves.

​Jeremiah Prince was a bastard, and had never much cared about his grandson. So just to make things difficult he demanded in his Will proof -through a Heritage Charm- that his half-blood grandson was indeed a Prince. The goblins did the spell, and it was then that Severus found out Danielle existed. The Heritage Charm was amazingly thorough, and was able to confirm Elizabeth was indeed Douglas child, and Lily’s half-sister. It also revealed one startling fact. Petunia was not related to the Evans family at all. The only explanation was that she was probably adopted.

​Potter was not safe at his current residence; and had clearly never been. There were no Blood Wards. There could not be if Petunia was not related to Lily at all. When Lily died, so many years ago, Severus made an Unbreakable Vow to protect her son. He was duty bound to do so. Blood Wards were still the best option, and those either Elizabeth or Danielle could power. Albus needed to know about his findings, but before he informed the Headmaster Severus decided to investigate Elizabeth. She would not be a good guardian for Gryffindor’s Golden Boy if she was still doing drugs. He also wanted to meet his child.

​Danielle’s living conditions were deplorable. Her mother was still an addict, as well as a prostitute. She wasted the money she got from Bertha’s house on drugs. Elizabeth was also very abusive, and her boyfriend of the moment was no better. He was a low life drug dealer. That life was not safe for the girl, and neither would it be for Potter. Before he learned about his child’s life, Severus had no intention of raising her. Things were getting dangerous in the wizarding world, and he could feel the Dark Lord would be back soon. It would not be safe to get close to the girl, although he did want to. Once he knew how bad things were for his small daughter, he could not leave her there to be abused. He simply could not. He had lived a terrible childhood at his father’s hands, and no child of his would ever have to live through that if he could help it. Since Elizabeth was a muggle, he went about getting his daughter the muggle way.

​It had been a slow process, and he had to resort to an illegal Time Turner so he could be in London and still do his duty at Hogwarts. Severus had the chance to see his daughter, and begin to get to know her. She was a powerful and smart little witch. When he visited her, he would tell her about Hogwarts, and about the Wizarding World. He was happy, but it did not last. He should be used to it by now.

Danielle was dead.

​Elizabeth’s boyfriend raped, and beat her to death in a drug induced rage. It seemed the mother did possess some modicum of a mothering instinct. She attacked the man with a knife while he slept after he killed her daughter. It was brutal, according to the authorities, and she too was dead of a drug overdose. The constables believed it had been a suicide and not an accident.

​It happened only two days ago, just when he finally got full guardianship of her. He would have picked Danielle up that morning to bring her to his modest house in Stockport. Since he did not have a phone, the constables in London had informed those in town, and it was they who gave him the terrible news. It was … unfair. Yet he knew that, at least for him, life had never been fair. Severus had begun to warm up to the idea of being a parent. He had also started to care for Danielle. Perhaps it was for the best. Being a spy put her at grave risk from both sides. He played such a delicate balancing act, and he might not have been able to keep her safe from either side.

​Severus had been in the room he had Lippe -one of the Prince house-elves- clean and decorate for his daughter since the constables left the previous day. The room that had been his when he was a child. It looked so much better now, and Danielle would have loved it. But she would never see it. He had barely moved or slept since he got the terrible news. It was there where Shacklebolt’s Patronus found him.

“Snape, the audience was a farce and a set-up. Dumbledore never showed up. Potter was not allowed to defend himself. The Wizengamot found him guilty. They expected a mild punishment, we all did. Fudge and his Under Secretary had other ideas. The bastard used a Ministerial Edict to sentence the boy to a Dementor’s Kiss as soon as he reached Azkaban. We are stalling, but it won’t last. There is no way to appeal, or change, the sentence when it is via a Ministerial Edict. The Wizengamot is in uproar, and courtroom ten -where they held the audience with full attendance of the Wizengamot- is in lockdown. Meet me and Amelia Bones at Azkaban’s pier. Do not, and I must stress it, DO NOT contact the Order, or Dumbledore. Potter was assaulted while at Headquarters. He is not safe there. Bring _Healing Potions and Chocolate.”_ The lynx Patronus vanished after that.

​Severus stared in shock at the place where the lynx had been. He could not believe what he had just heard. Dumbledore deserted his Golden Boy? And what the bloody hell was Fudge thinking? Not even the most vicious Death Eaters were sentenced to a Kiss! What was that about Potter being attacked at Grimmauld Place twelve? The boy was supposed to be safe there. For a moment, he was tempted to ignore Shacklebolt’s request. Was he not allowed time to grieve for his child? Let Dumbledore and the Order deal with Saint Potter.

​But that particular Auror was not a simpleton. In fact, he rather respected him. Shacklebolt was smart, observant, and not one to follow blindly. That wizard was not afraid to voice his opinions, even if they were not what the imbeciles expected. Shaking himself, and stretching -he spent the whole night practically in the same position- he stood up, and went down to his potions laboratory to prepare a satchel with potions. He would also drink a Sobering Draught and a Stimulant Potion. He needed a clear head if he was to face Dementors.

Chapter 01

Harry stared in shock and disbelief at Fudge’s and the toad like witch. That was it? They asked questions that made him look guilty. Where was the justice? Wasn’t he allowed to defend himself? How could the Wizengamot judge him guilty without hearing both sides of the story? He knew an under age witch or wizard was allowed to use magic during breaks in self-defence. Sure, he cast a Patronus in front of a muggle, but there were two Dementors in that alley. Besides, the Statute of Secrecy did not apply to those muggles living under the same roof as a wizard. Dudley knew about magic. They grew up in the same house for fourteen years.

Where was Dumbledore anyway? The Headmaster promised to be there to defend him, but it was clear he abandoned him. He left him to fend for himself just like every other adult had done. Harry should have never trusted him. Now he was about to be expelled from the only place he called home.

The witch with the monocle, Madam Bones he thought her name was, did not look at all pleased. She glared at Fudge and his toadie. Madam Bones also sent a glare to the Wizengamot members, more than a few cringed. She called for a sentence. The toad like witch spoke with a falsely ‘sweet’ voice. Her words left everyone in horrified shock. Harry had been trying to be strong. The summer had been so painful; Vernon had been very stressed, and took it out on him. Then Sirius … his mind refused to go there. Now Fudge and that witch decided it was necessary to be rid of him. He knew then it was a set-up because Fudge did not want to accept Voldemort was back. They were silencing him with a Dementor’s Kiss, and keeping his soulless body in Azkaban.

Those present could not believe what they were hearing, and looked incredulous at Dolores Umbridge -the Minister’s Under Secretary- and at Cornelius Fudge. No one could believe they heard right. But both -witch and wizard- looked triumphant. Umbridge moved fast, she took the wand from the shell shocked boy, and with a look full of glee she snapped it. That was when all hell broke loose. All Wizengamot members were up in uproar. Sentencing a child to a Dementor’s Kiss for a misdemeanour that merited at the most a reprimand and a fine? Not even Bellatrix LeStrange had been sentenced to a Kiss for her heinous crimes. It was the equivalent of murder. Never mind that Fudge was eliminating the only remaining member of an Ancient and Noble Line. The boy was the only Potter left. Half Blood or not it went against Pure Blood Law.

Accusations began flying. They all realized the boy and Dumbledore must be telling the truth about You-Know-Who’s return. While the arguments and accusations went flying around, Umbridge brought two Dementors that were ‘conveniently’ available at the Ministry that morning. The boy fell to his knees catatonic, and would have been Kissed right there if three Patroni had not kept them at bay. The toad witch was about to protest when she realized that one Patronus belonged to a livid Amelia Bones. Other Patroni, from those in the Wizengamot that could cast the spell, began joining the original three.

Cornelius Fudge no longer looked triumphant; on the contrary he looked afraid. He clearly realized what a grave mistake he made. A united Wizengamot was uncommon; yet they were all against what was done to Harry James Potter. Most were demanding his resignation, and that charges were brought against the both of them for murder. The Wizengamot could not over rule the sentence because they had used one of the ten Ministerial Edicts all Ministers had the right to during their terms in office. They were practically a free pass that would be enforced by magic if need be. Trying to stall as much as possible Amelia had Kingsley Shacklebolt cast a Diagnostic Scan on the catatonic boy.

The results were both puzzling and cause for concern. They reported the boy was badly injured, severely underweight, and had very recently been sexually assaulted. The boy had been beaten recently as well; the latest beating was the previous night. The relatives were the main suspects for the older injuries, but Potter had been staying at Order Headquarters since the sixth, and was ‘supposedly’ safe there. Yet he had been raped right under the Order’s bloody noses.

Kingsley looked at Amelia and signalled for her to lower her mental shields. Once inside her mind, he reported his findings. She was appalled. The Head of the Magical Law Enforcement Department requested deeper scans, the Abusus Historia, and that he collected copies of the memory of the attack. She was now convinced Dementors did attack the boy. Kingsley should look for the memory of the Third Task, as well as any memory he found relevant. Even with that she did not believe they could stall for longer than an hour or two.

The Dementors did not get far from Potter, and under their effects Harry’s mind relived his worst memories over and over. There were so many. Kingsley and Amelia learn of the horrible neglect and abuse the boy suffered at his relatives’ hands. They discover Dumbledore was neglectful as well as remiss in his Headmaster duties. Hogwarts had never been safe for Harry Potter.

Dumbledore did nothing to protect the boy or his students; although they saw Snape in the background, always vigilant. That reminded Kingsley of a conversation he overheard between the Potions Master and Dumbledore. The Slytherin had some kind of Oath or Vow to protect the boy. With that information Kingsley, began forming a plan to save the young wizard.

As they viewed the memories they finally came to those where the identity of his rapist was revealed. Sirius Black did it, several times, right under the Order of the Phoenix’s noses. There had been clear warning signs that something was wrong. Hell, the bastard could not keep his hands to himself! Molly Weasley caught him with his tongue deep down the boy’s throat, and she did nothing! Remus Lupin caught the animagus fondling their best friend’s son. The boy’s pants were down at his ankles, a spell was keeping him bent over a table, and tears were running down the boy’s cheeks. Lupin did NOTHING! He simply left, and Warded the room! At that moment both Aurors felt like werewolf hunting was in season. They took as many incriminating memories as they could copy; then they replicated them a few times.

​The Abusus Historia took much longer than expected. It would serve to give the boy some justice. The spell recorded each instance of abuse and/or neglect, the date, and the perpetrator. It was used on small children, or those too traumatized to speak about what happened to them. Amelia would make sure all those who harmed the poor boy were punished. If that meant sending Albus-bloody-Dumbledore to Azkaban, then so be it. He had not only ignored Harry Potter’s rights. He had placed him in danger time and again; and she would know why. They began collecting all the evidence obtained, but delaying as much as they could to buy time. None spoke, yet both their minds were frantically thinking ways to save the boy.

“We cannot allow this King,” Amelia projected into the other’s mind. While in public they appeared to be nothing more than trusted colleagues, they had been lovers for several years. There were many prejudiced that did not accept an older witch with a younger wizard, specially a Pure Blood with a muggle born.

“No we can’t. If we hadn’t collected such strong evidence of neglect from Dumbledore and the Order I would call them, as we’ll need help.”

“What about Snape? He is … a Death Eater, but … didn’t you mention he had some Oath to protect the boy?” The Dementors were getting restless. Their time was nearly up.

“He does; and as any Slytherin, that wizard is resourceful and cunning. The Order really does not value what someone like him could provide for them besides spying. I’ll send him a Patronus. Hopefully he can meet me at Azkaban’s pier.”

“I’m going as well. We are probably going to need to Memory Charm the guards.”

“Yes. We can count on Flaherty. This appalling sentence did not sit well with him,” Kingsley commented.

​He broke contact, cast his Lynx Patronus, and sent it to Severus Snape with a rather long message. He stressed that neither Dumbledore, nor the Order should be contacted. He would provide a complete explanation later, once the boy was out of danger. Hopefully they would be able to save Potter.
